Miami booster offers $540,000 NIL endorsement deal to all Hurricanes scholarship football players

If you wondered how long it would take for a college athletics booster to offer a six-figure name, image and likeness deal to an entire football team, the answer is officially "less than a week". That figure is actually $540,000, and it's coming courtesy of a South Florida businessman with the recipients being the Miami Hurricanes football team.

Interesting. I wonder if that will be a fund, or equal distribution. I think equal distribution is far less likely, I could see this going to potentially five players...

If equally distributed it's only around $5,000 a player.

I like wkuyg's question.

I say basketball, because it would be far easier to put together a powerful team in basketball.

I like your Powerball analogy, let's say you take home 100 million and you want to throw 10 million at your program, that's a pool that can be distributed over a 10-year period a million dollars of distribution.

That's real money if you go the basketball route, you could potentially pull in a group of 10 for $100,000 player, you could really make a lot of headway.

If I was the head coach and making more money than I could at any other job and wanted to keep that job....

My Radio/TV contract would be sit aside for the players. If you think about it and you were making a million dollars a year and if you dont win that money goes away. If you do win your million a year increases. So as a coach I would have 200k set up as "media" contract and like I said let that money go for the players weekly interviews.

Hell most schools spend close to a million on recruiting but I'm sure thats includes most sports. Wouldnt it be easier to ID the recruits you want and spend that money on NIL?

So many doors opened and games to be played.

To answer my own question...football and spend my money to Buy a QB, RB, TE, 2 WR, c/lt/lg and 6 defenders up the middle. With the correct coach...top 15 most years

Nice. However, let's assume everyone else in the conference is doing the same?

Payouts will eventually even out. What used to be an advantage last year is no longer an advantage...

That's probably the evolution...

Most definitely Tennis. We have a nice facility, but we can do more. I would add clay and grass courts. Maybe an indoor bubble. Although I believe tennis should be played under God's sky.

Both. Plus softball, volleyball, and golf.

RE: NIL is here
The fundamental problem with the “free market” view of this issue is that the NCAA is NOT really allowing a very select few players who truly create value to finally cash in on that. Rather they are, perhaps partly unwittingly, generating a totally contrived and artificial market—more of a Pandora’s Box really–where the fans of schools have a huge incentive to grossly overpay even those athletes who barely play, thus making all future recruits know that THEIR college program is the right one to choose. This problem is particularly ill-timed because the NCAA has also recently made it FAR easier for a player to transfer schools, which means that top athletes will now be able to effectively blackmail their own fans to directly pay them money in an effort to get them to NOT transfer. This means that the metaphorical inmates will now be running the asylum, and coaches will have no real power over even marginally prominent players, while huge intra-team jealousies are a certainty.

I think we will eventually see a completely separate league from the NCAA.

You will see the majority of the big players break off, leaving a completely separate rung with the rest of us under the NCAA tarp.

Yes, I forgot, Mormons don't drink coffee. That's the line in the sand for me.

Something is going to have to break here. That article from Optimistic regarding Miami is a perfect example of where this is going.

Quote:"I want to help the kids," Lambert told ESPN. "I want to reward them for what they do, and I want a better product on the field, too. I want to improve the reputation of the school and the team I love so much. I think it's a cool opportunity to get involved and make a difference."

He wants to improve the reputation of the school by paying the football players to advertise his gym, yea ok. 03-lmfao

I wonder what will happen when some 5* recruit says "I don't want the scholarship. I don't want to go to class or pursue a degree. Just pay me the equivalent in cash."

This is one of the worst ******* ideas I've ever seen. College sports only hope is to roll this back after a couple disasterous years but i doubt that happens. College sports were the best in the world, but the left got their claws in it, and now it's over.

Im actually OK with splitting from the P5 now. Theres no way any CUSA team can compete in this arms race. And at least there was the incentive for our best upperclassmen players to stay to be superstars and major play time. But lets say the base salary for a P5er is $25k plus all the other benefits, and a CUSA team cant match that, its hard for a kid to say no to overtures from the money teams.

I am not interested in getting into a left vs right political argument here, so I will just say that we the people have been trying to force the value of a free education down the throats of young student-athletes and their parents for many decades, preparing them to become self-sufficient adults. Sadly, the results are in--they would prefer to concentrate on earning $2500 a semester in Instabucks than a degree in something marketable. Good luck to these future minimum wage earners.
