The best ever .... at any level .... in any sport .... may have very well been Jim Clark. He beat the field by minutes in Formula-1 using a crappy Lotus that fell apart if you looked at it too long.

Pedro was a great pitcher, but he nor Rivera were greater than Maddux or Johnson.

I hate Pedro but I think he was better than Johnson and Riveria (I love Riveria). For five or so years Pedro was the best better than Maddux but Maddux had better longevity. If you gave me a choice on who to face in their prime Maddux or Pedro I would choose Maddux.

I am in my late 50s, so I will go back to players I actually saw play live or on TV (so no Sandy Koufax since he retired when I was 2, etc.)

Baseball: Willie Mays, Ichiro, Pete Rose, Roger Clemens

Basketball: Michael Jordan, Kareem Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant

Football: Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton

Hockey: Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Jean Béliveau, Bobby Orr

Soccer: Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo

Basketball: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Lebron James
give me those four in their prime plus any center and I'll never lose a game.

Football: Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Lawrence Taylor
Tom and Joe are the same guy, but I couldn't leave out either one. Barry and Lawrence were transcendent. Deion Sanders would be next man up.

Hockey: Wayne Gretsky, Sidney Crosby, IDK, IDK
Wayne and Sidney were utterly dominant in their times. I don't watch enough hockey to pick the last two, tbh.

Baseball: Pete Rose, Hank Aaron, Randy Johnson, IDK
Too many tainted home run hitters, and there are simply too many great baseball players to choose from.

RE: Mount rushmores
In no particular order

Baseball: Greg Maddux, Ken Griffey Jr, Vlad Guerrero, Randy Johnson
Vlad might be the most controversial pick, but he was the most fun to watch play. Could hit homers on pitches that bounced 10 feet in front of the plate, and had a rocket for an arm out of right field.

Basketball: Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan
This may have been harder than baseball. I also thought about Iverson, Shaq, Garnett, Malone, Hakeem, and Barkley for the last position (among others).

Football: Barry Sanders, Tom Brady, Dan Marino, Anthony Munoz
Marino is admittedly a biased pick for me. Brady has earned it, Barry was the most fun to watch. Munoz is probably controversial, but he gets here because he was the best OL I've ever seen and because he would routinely give pointers to the defensive players about hand placement and rush technique DURING THE GAME! And he still destroyed them!

Hockey: Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Roy
The first three are pretty self-explanatory. I was debating Roy, Bourque, or Hasek for the last spot.
