To be elite
After the Houston game the Tigers demonstrated an ability to stop the thoughtless unforced turnovers, but still have not demonstrated the focus and confidence to make its free throws. Make 14 of 20 free throws and the Tigers won that game. Instead they shot 50% 10 of 20. That is not elite.

We were a single shot away from going into overtime with the 7th ranked team in the country on their home court. I don't know what your definition of elite is, but I don't think anyone can meet it.

We are closer to elite than we have been in recent memory. CPH's reaction and every player on that teams reaction says, they aren't satisfied either; actually they are disgusted.

We are still young. The future is ahead of us.

Got ***** about something else.

Had we pulled that game off, it would have been the second "biggest" win in all of college basketball this year (top 10 win on their home court).
FTs are bad - no doubt. But that D...
Might not be elite yet, but not far from it.

Agree

In another thread someone posited that they are so close and that NEXT year will bust down that door should most of these kids return

Also correct

Even if I understand the fatigue about use of next year. This year was next year. But this year was severely weird. And team is still on the brink. Man I hope they win three games this coming weekend. And man I hope they come back for a more normal season with a Junior laden mature team playing a season where they don’t go weeks without practice etc.

Starts with ECU/UCF. Then likely Houston. They either WSU, Cincy or SMU. Three serious efforts with fewer mistakes likely wins all three. This year starts continues Friday, and next year starts then as well.

RE: To be elite
We are set perfectly for a tournament run if Lomax is healthy. Houston has a couple of players that get big minutes, none of our players played more than 26 minutes per game, we got just the right amount of game time, 3 games in 8 days, and our confidence should be sky high. Quite remarkable that they had 3 players average 37 minutes and they all had 2 fouls.

OK elite, elite, elite...
What would it take to be stupendous? All powerful? Undefeated for 10 years? What is this garbage? Elite. So we're not elite, so what. Is that your only definition of being a happy fan, infinite undefeatedness? We're not as good as we hoped we be, but we're pretty damn good and I have truly enjoyed watching this team improve over the course of this season.

What would you do if you were an Alabama fan? Duke fan? Kentucky fan? You'd never ever enjoy the game, because anything this side of perfection and you get mad.

That guy hit a crazy ass shot, we had our chances, we'll get them back Saturday.

GO TIGERS! elite my a$$.

We all want to be elite. Hopefully the guys can continue to build on what they have accomplished.

Free throws amounts to who shoots them. Our big men went 3-10 from the line. Malcolm should do better. Williams missed out on a 3 point play with 2:49 left. The surprising one was Jayden missing one and when Lester missed his with 49 seconds left and we were down 3.

I agree with this post. Some people have a hard time understanding the definition of words. We are not elite. We are close, but we are not, and free throws is the reason.

We were taught by the OP that we aren't the 2008 Tigers. We had no idea. The OP is also telling us by his criteria, that the 2008 team also was NOT elite. The 2021 Houston team is also not elite. Unless you do everything perfectly, you are not elite. Only Gonzaga is elite.

The OP's posts should be behind a pay wall. Information like that should not be free. I would probably pay $200-300/month for information like this if it was posted more often.

That we’re not elite or that making 14 of those 20 free throws wins the game? I’m no space-time geometry guy, but the latter is fill of holes.

Personally, I would have preferred an evenly called game where all of Houston's players were in foul trouble, and ours weren't. THAT would have made us elite.
