Here's another question. If the deceased in this case has been carrying a gun, and shot the two men who had guns drawn on him, would it be justified as self defense? I have to assume it would.

Zimmerman vs. Martin was two hot headed idiots meeting and naturally bad things happen. And it happened when Martin (as shown by the phone calls to his girlfriend) went after the guy with the gun because he was ticked about being followed.

Media following the same ol' routine. Now, if those dudes are guilty then away they go. However, IMO, if the races were reversed we wouldn't be hearing nearly as much about this. The media knows what pays the bills.

I am taking this with a GIGANTIC grain of salt.

I have seen FAR too many reports like:

"He was on his way to see his grandma, and he had a Sprite and Skittles."

"He had his hands up and yelled "don't shoot" before being gunned down."

"He was minding his own business."

Only to find out those were complete lies, meant to spark outrage.

Let's wait for the facts before we burn a city down...

Doesn't sound like he's too neutral and unbiased either.

Also, what background are you talking about? The guy just basically asks questions for the entirety of the video. Doesn't sound like he knows anything more about the case than anyone else does.

I just watched it. The Truck with guys was stopped. 1 guy was standing near the drivers door with shotgun. Ahmaud Arbery runs toward the truck, around the passenger side, then goes after the guy with the gun and tries to take the gun away. Then a struggle and shots. Guessing whoever was filming is friends with the 2 guys in the truck.

I have no idea what to think of this, but as a white man who could end up being the father of a half black child in the not too distant future stuff like this scares me.

The background came from my daughters friends in Brunswick. The man who did the shooting was a former officer of the court. He and his son found Arbrey casing a home 12 miles away from where Arbery lived.

Georgia is an open carry state that permits citizens arrests. The man accosting Arbery only tried to detain him until called police arrived. Arbery ran at them, around the truck and tried to take the firearm away. He was subsequently shot.

I cited that he was from the area because that's what my daughter conveyed and I didn't check out his location. That said the questions he raises are solid and valid in any case.

I lived there for 10 years, know the city, its conditions, and what has transpired to bring it to this point.

I'm willing to wait for the whole story to come out. Why aren't you? This thread has been the usual rush to push an agenda, or suck up as some disgusting posts have, or to parlay the matter into a left or right agenda. It's going to come down to whether this was an attempted citizens arrest, an attempt to set up a robbery, an unlawful attempt to arrest, or an unlawful shooting. What it is likely not to be is premeditated.

So in this thread so far nothing is about getting to the truth and everything is about a rush to push an agenda. Brunswick is a really nice location that between it and St. Simons/Sea Island and Jekyll Island mixes tourism, real wealth, and poverty within an atmosphere conducive to the drug trade. In the 10 years I lived there it was corrupt and had an abundance of property crime, but it wasn't violent in the sense of commonplace shootings. Last year when I returned to see old friends it was apparent it had turned violent and had been that way for some time.

The Islands meanwhile have gotten whiter and more affluent.

I strongly suspect this will be a case of a victimized middle class neighborhood on the mainland being hyper sensitive to property crime, and a guy with a record being found doing something suspicious there and the rest being the result of the mix of the two.

Georgia's citizen's arrest law requires that the offender must have committed a crime in the presence of another person, or that person must have "immediate knowledge" of a crime that has taken place by the perpetrator. From what I've read and seen thus far, these qualifications were not met.

You're right here. Perhaps I shouldn't have used "Murdered" in the thread title. I'll withhold my full judgement until all the facts come out and I'm not ruling out self defense. At this point, I'm mostly upset that Gregory and Travis McMichael haven't been apprehended at all already. There were in an altercation that left someone else bleeding out on the ground. From this vantage point, it looks like the local officers took the McMichael's word on what happened, declared it self defense, and then called it a day. I have a feeling that if this video never saw the light of day, nothing would have ever happened.

Didn't that video just come out? Or was it available when this happened and was first investigated?
