I listened to the postgame show and Penny said something basically like, when he got to warmups he said he wasnt feeling well, and before the game he said he couldnt go..

I am pretty sure he wasnt seen and treated by a doctor before tipoff.

Could have been a bad stomach or any other possible reason. Flu just became the goto.

CBS (edit) reported "Illness" during the game broadcast.

Generally a coach with 20 years' experience is going to have a pretty fair chance against a coach with less than 2.

Generally a team of freshmen is going to make more mental mistakes than a team with more upperclassmen.

Generally a team is going to have better results with their second best player than without him.

But I do agree, three-point defense has been our Achilles Heel all season and doesn't seem to be getting better. Fight through a pick once in a while so their shooters don't know exactly which player they have to beat.

All of that^

Weird that we are 25th best in the nation defending the 3 with opponents shooting 28%.

This Dude definitely understands the art of the shart
Notice the Dude is wearing white, I'm sure this occurred when he blew by a defender and applied
Some extra juice, hopefully he's headed to the locker room for a quick change.
Good thing he's not the center, I understand q.b.'s r always concerned about hand placements
Under the center and the hut hut tapping
Interesting how the cameraman zoomed in on this, I bet he's had that embarrassing Shart moment

I especially don't like how we switch defenders instead of fighting through screens. Teams take advantage of that by passing the ball around until they get the right matchup. The more talented the team (thank goodness we dont see many), the more they will be able to take advantage of it. Then we end up with Lance Thomas out on the 3 line trying to defend a guard, while our guard is under the basket trying to defend their big man.

A switching defense is the easiest defense to teach without a doubt...Dead simple.

Now when we have Maurice or Lance in we don't only switch 1-4 and we hedge on the screen on the 5...That is when our defense breaks down by them swinging the ball.

Penny is going to have to learn to coach to his personnel...Lance and Dandridge are capable players on defense...Just not in the scheme Penny is running.

Good post. In the short term, I think you're right. But in the sense of teaching a young team, I like his approach. Our on ball defense is improving and our bigs are learning to defend. Should pay off when it counts. Right?

If comparative games mean anything, we're not very good.
