Did the same to the Oklahoma Roughnecks' logo...

I think the Tennessee Titans (aka former Houston Oilers) might want to speak to both of these organizations:

[Image: Houston_Oilers_Circle_PR_1024x1024.png?v=1544327970]

Pretty sure they still own the trademark on the Oil Tower logo. Of course, they could have given permission to both these squads as well, who knows?

Well dang it you boyz beat me to it.
I came here to post a new thread because, yes, obviously the Seattle Dragons are functionally equivalent to the UAB Blazer-Dragons.

Anyway.... here’s my favorite link ranking all the team names.
https://apple.news/ApjXGYvekQl6j_zJs-CGRjw

And more importantly:
Who to root for in the XFL based on your CUSA school!

UAB - Seattle Dragons
(Yes absolutely use them for damages but cheer for them and buy their merch so that you can still get something out of them before they go under)

UTSA - St. Louis Battlehawks
The CUSA mascot most resembling an angry bird is UTSA’s Roadrunnerwarrior. Don’t ‘F’ with either one.

FAU - Tampa Vipers
Closest CUSA school to Tampa. Sorry, Panthers, you just missed out by a few miles.

Rice - Houston Roughnecks
(Although they’ll play their games across town at UH’s TDECU stadium, so maybe there is more of an ECU connection. Maybe I need to take this thread to the AAC board... memo to self..) anyway what better nickname to evoke the Rice Student experience. Er, well... hmm.

UNT - Dallas Renegades
The jig is up, the news is out!
But again, SMU is closer to Arlington than UNT. I’ll at least fight through this before heading over to AAC land

LaTech - New York Guardians
What better guardian could you want than a Louisiana Tech Bulldog? I mean house-guardian but it works for the Cover-two scheme as well.

ODU - DC Defenders
Close by, just across the state. They probably even play their games in Virginia though I haven’t checked on this one

FAU - Los Angeles Wildcats
Our conference’s only cat nickname is a perfect fit for the LA XFL team. Sorry, UTEP. If we wouldn’t let FAU have Tampa, there’s no way you get the Wildcats (even if you’re closer to LA than you are to anyone In CUSA East (and half of us in the west, even))

Everyone else - you don’t get an XFL team and instead get to root for the FAVORITES, I.e., for the XFL to fail (again) in 3 years or less.

Enjoy and I’ll see myself out now!

(Go Roughnecks, Go Renegades!)

Just have the Seattle team rename themselves to Flaming Seahorses and it will be fine

No. DC is 4.5 hours away. They are also not Virginia. We do not automatically root for DC sports teams in this area. Be gone, thot!

Subtle similarities. The new Houston Roughnecks also have an oil derrick logo

I think they probably took inspiration from UAB's logo, but they don't look that similar to me. The Seattle logo looks like a neon snake.

Well said. Northern Virginia is not Virginia. I say we give them to DC or Maryland.

Point #1, I root for a team 4.5 hours away (Rice) from where I live (Denton County).

Point #2, I’ve worked in Norfolk, and I’ve worked in Sterling. I heard the DC Metro even goes there now. Same state, same license plates. (Enjoyed both areas by the way).

Anyhoo, since there’s no butterflies in the XFL I suppose we can call your lion a wildcat and give you LA.

FIU, sorry, you’ve got DC.

Fair trade?

Ok, done.

(Besides, What US city is more ‘international’ than DC, right? Don’t say New York, that’d just make this more complicated)

I accept this trade.

And as to your point #1, I'm going to casually assume you went to Rice and you'd root for them no matter where you reside.

Since you've worked in Norfolk, I hope you've been to a sports bar on Sundays. It's like walking into a rainbow. We don't really have a common team we root for, it's a giant melting pot of different teams thanks to not having a team nearby and having a lot of people such as yourself here who aren't born/raised here. I enjoy it.

Speaking as a Norfolk native whose life and career has deposited him in the DMV, there's a definite cultural disconnect between the Virginia north of, say, the Cracker Barrel off I-95 at the Massaponax exit, and the rest of the state. Though I don't agree with my fellow Monarch about letting DC or Maryland take them. Virginia would get a lot redder without NoVa, but its coffers would get a lot more bare.

But then what states don't have their outlier areas that have little in common with the rest of the state? There's a difference between the North Carolina along I-85 and 40 and the N.C. well away from them. And Texas, you guys could probably separate into a dozen autonomous areas (other than a license plate and too many people in Longhorns shirts from Walmart, what unifies Brownsville, Port Arthur, Texarkana, Dallas, Fort Worth, Amarillo, Laredo and El Paso?)

Hey I'm born and raised in Northern VA and do not ever want to be part of Maryland (sorry not sorry to the crab-folk on the other side of Potomac). Arlington county should still be DC, but that's neither here nor there.

And for the local Norfolk-ians, if not DC, what other XFL team would you root for? Rooting for them doesn't mean you have to claim allegiance to the sorry-a** Redskins and Wizards (though I'm a die-hard of both 04-cheers ).

Also, the DC Defenders will be playing in Audi Field, the new 20,000 seat MLS stadium in Buzzard Point of Southern DC
