This is potentially the worst news of the Fall.
Weaver and Clarke were the best, and really the only, O linemen that were of the caliber of the great Born led lines of FCS.
This is bad because it means we have not found a center. We discussed the need for a true center back in the Spring.
While a great athlete, Weaver has never to my knowledge, played any position but LT, even in HS. Weaver's quick feet and lateral movement made him a natural Tackle, both blocking the pass and the run.
The OLine is really the only position (maybe QB) that needs a redshirt year to actually develop. It is the most demanding position in football, mentally and physically; and the most difficult to recruit.
I hope this means that we have found some heretofore unknown OL talent.
Otherwise we are in for a long season on the ground and in the air.
Left tackle is way more difficult to play than center. If they are moving Weaver to center bc they havent found a center, thats terrible News. If they have moved Weave to center bc Smith is playing well, thats great news.
I agree.
However, Weaver has been so good it is difficult to fathom that whomever is now on the right side is so good that one of Smith or Weaver wouldn't then be moved to RT.
I have not yet heard that we are that strong.

I won't be surprised if this ends up being another lemon headed decision by Wilder. He had Bentley start before Washington, SW before Larussa although some of this blame falls squarely on Whitcomb. We all know how these evaluations and testings can go sideways.

A strong/smash mouth running game cures many ills. I’m hoping Kesean, Lala, and Geiger and ready to set the tone!

Yeah that does open possibilities for our passing game but in order to do that we need to have a strong OL to open up lanes or at least hold opposing lines longer enough to let the play develop. I am afraid unless we have some magical development at OL we are not ready for that yet. lets see how OL develops as the practice go on.

No mention of anyone failing to meet conditioning standards this year. Hopefully a good sign. BW still reporting great practices with lots of energy. You'd think we're going to compete for a national championship to hear him tell it. I want to see results match his enthusiasm.

He says the same thing every year. I agree, I hope conditioning and an improvement in athleticism will be seen during game day.

Strong and ATHLETIC OL is the key to the running game. In the past we have been strong but not very athletic.

The “failed conditioning” tests were in the spring in the weeks leading up to spring practice. It wasnt as much failed conditioning but the players had to meet certain criteria and were awarded points for such things as showing up to workouts. But, many of the players were still injured from the previous season because it started 5 weeks after the bowl game.

He practiced with us this week so I'm assuming the Flames are kind of confused.

A nice report is that of a sneak peek.
"With construction on S.B. Ballard Stadium coming along, coach Bobby Wilder said he’s confident the team will be able to hold a public scrimmage there Aug. 24."
