RE: Syracuse Returns to the Zoo
The article says one of the reasons Syracuse is playing WMU is because they are a quality program.
Is that going to be the new trend? P5 programs willing to do 1 for 1's with G5 only if they are good? That is kind of how college basketball works.

To get 1 and 1s with big boys you have to have decent name recognition and be solid, but not too good to where the game is a threat. Basically the mid P5s should avoid SDSU, BOISE STATE, UCF, HOUSTON etc. Go play Marshall, USM, WMU, CSU.

RE: Syracuse Returns to the Zoo
Iowa State just played at Akron in 2017 and I feel it's safe to say Akron hasn't been a quality G5 program. With the rising costs for P5 to buy G5 opponents, I think the one and one deals are still out there for the G5s that want them. This particularly applies towards the Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Oregon State type schools who aren't able to pack 70k+ fans in their stadium for a G5 opponent. The thing is the majority of G5s want the cash that goes along with being bought.
WMU is just willing to sacrifice guaranteed revenue in hopes of building its football brand. Kent is on the opposite side of the spectrum. They've been getting bought 2-3x per year for the last several years. It seems more MAC schools are moving closer towards Kent's scheduling philosophy and further from WMU's.

And play Toledo as long as the refs are blind.
Syracuse apparently is willing to play Miami, WMU and Ohio to a home and home. I think we can add Toledo to that list (if they would want to play Cuse again).
Decent G5 teams fairly close to recruiting areas can now negotiate H/H's with the mid level P5 schools. The interesting case for Cuse is I doubt they would ever give UB a home and home.

Broncos will be playing Marshall in a home/home.
I like it. Good opponent, name recognition from the MAC days, some baked-in nostalgia. I know the Herd has kept a few series going with a few Ohio-based schools closer to Huntington, so I was wondering if we'd ever meet them again.

I like this OOC scheduling. We've got Cuse, Pitt, Marshall, Cincy all coming to the Zoo in the next few years.

I wonder if Dino would ever nudge Syracuse admin to go to BG, though it doesn't make sense with where the Falcons are as a program. Then again in the next few years the fortunes could completely reverse.

Within the realm of possibility. They recruit Detroit and Cleveland. Dino likes games near recruiting areas

I know Campbell would never want to touch Toledo with a 10 foot poll seeing we beat ISU the year he left for Ames. Lots of his previous staff is also still at Toledo. It's kind of common courtesy not to beat up on the school you just came from... Or risk a loss.
Buffalo did that to ASU in the NCAA tourney... Bad look.
BG is a way different program since Dino has left so it may not be a terrible game to schedule at home for Syracuse? But going to the Doyt is silly for even Toledo let alone an ACC school.

Oh I agree...much better choices. However, Cuse does like to schedule games near where they recruit. I figure Akron, NIU and Toledo are better choices.
