RE: Baseball Games of Interest
Can’t imagine we get in the polls after beating a bunch of terrible teams. But who knows?

- Purdue takes 2/3 at Northwestern.
- State takes 2/3 vs. Auburn. Typical State game where Auburn opens up a big lead, but chokes, and State wins 20-15. Just awful.
- Gonzaga loses 1/3 at Pepperdine.
- Holy Cross trying to split a DH with Bucknell.

Ole Miss in danger of losing a series to Missouri. They won’t host. No pitching.

I wouldn’t worry about rankings right now. Just take it game by game and keep this streak going.

Really good depth on the mound but just don’t have the starting pitching. Bianco has been too slow to change the rotation. Phillips has been a bust of a JUCO recruit, and it was obvious by his second start. He was just removed from the Saturdar spot. Hoglund is going to be good but just isn’t
ready for a weekend slot as a freshman. He’s still pitching Sunday’s.

If they find a way that the pitching pieces fit together, I could see them going on a run. But they may just not have guys to fill the starting pitching roles.

Hitting has been ice cold, too, though.

They seem to have an unusually large amount of JUCO guys this season. And yeah, their offense has underachieved bigly, especially considering some thought they had the most talented lineup in the country. Guys like Cockrell and Kessinger have seen their numbers go down a ton. They’re .500 in SEC play after playing the 2 worst teams in the league so I’m guessing they’ll be a #2 somewhere.

RE: Baseball Games of Interest
The quality of our OOC schedule tends to depend on Sun Belt teams having good years. They aren't this year.

Just saw a little of South Alabama. They suck. Can't hit (though they have some power). Not much pitching.

But their closer, Zach Greene--who for some reason turned down the pros after being drafted in the 15th round--is nasty.

18 innings, 0.00 ERA, 7 hits, 29 K's, 2 BB, opponents hit .113 off of him, and his WHIP is 0.50--also no wild pitches and no HBPs.

ODU (rpi of 140) won at William & Mary (59) tonight so our sweep looks a little better.

Our upcoming Friday opponent (UTSA) just tied Missouri 11-11 in bottom 10 at UTSA. UTSA had bases loaded with no out and down 2...next batter Ks and following batter hit into a possible game ending DP but throw from 2 to 1 went into the dugout allowing 2 runs to score and tie it. Game headed to 11th

RE: Baseball Games of Interest
Reading on the UAB page and sounds like their coach is going to be canned at the end of the season; their baseball talk sounds eerily similar to our basketball at times

https://csnbbs.com/thread-873434.html

some of the more intriguing posts:
- Not a baseball guy but I noticed our record, 11-17. Ouch. I believe Shoop's contract runs out after this season so there's a good chance it doesn't get renewed.
- UAB fans would actually have to show up to games for it to stand a chance. We cant simply show up twice a year for the Gump and Auburn games (in small numbers).
- It's something I'd really like for UAB to improve at. I know several on here are Schoop fans and suggest that it's the facilities, so I hope they're able to improve that soon and make this a competitive program.
- Short of a huge turnaround, I doubt Schoop returns. Technically won't be fired, just won't be renewed. I'm pretty sure Schoop's contract expires in July. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
- One of the problems with baseball crowds is that we don't draw but a couple hundred (at best) for any game at Young Memorial Field on campus
- There may have been 200-300 folks at the game at Regions Sunday for the UAB game at noon.
- and if the game were played on campus there may have been about 50. Maybe.
- We are currently raising money for a multi use baseball/softball facility that will have locker rooms and players lounges for both teams. Neither team currently has this so it is much needed! We just redid the field at YMF as far as re-leveling and putting in new grass. New bleachers and dugouts need to be addressed desperately but I think that is the last thing on the list for renovations.
- UAB just celebrated the 9th anniversary of "raising money" for the baseball/softball facility. I'm not sure it is any closer now, than it was in 2010.
- Nobody watches college baseball

RE: Baseball Games of Interest
UAB is one of 3 jobs in C-USA where it is impossible to win because of facilities and a complete lack of administrative and fan support. The other 2 being Marshall and UTSA. Shoop is about as good as they're going to get unless they just somehow stumble upon the next McDonnell or Schlossnagle.

RE: Baseball Games of Interest
- Purdue took 2 games from Penn State (game 3 cancelled) to get to 4-1 in league play.
- State lost 2/3 to LSU at home. If there’s a program that can match or perhaps exceed them in voodoo magic....
- Gonzaga took 2/3 from San Diego. They’re still top 35 in RPI.
- Holy Cross took 2/3 from Lehigh.

Ole Miss went to Baum and took 2/3 from Arkansas. Good series win for them. With their weak SEC East draw (relatively speaking), they could still get in the mix for a host spot.

South Alabama was swept at UT-Arlington. Jags are sub .500 and just inside the top 100 of RPI. Don’t think they will help us much.

RE: Baseball Games of Interest
rough week/weekend (april 2-7) for our OOC opponents:

- Purdue got swept by Nebraska and lost their midweek game too
- State won 2/3 at Tennessee and won their midweek game
- Gonzaga won 2/3 vs Pacific but lost their midweek game
- UNO won 2/5 with one of the losses being a home loss to RPI 280 Jackson St
- Holy Cross went 2-2 on the week
- South Alabama went 1-3 the rest of the week after they beat us on Tuesday..granted their competition was much tougher with games vs LSU (8) and three vs Coastal Carolina (27)

One of our OOC weekend opponents Holy Cross finishes up regular season play today and their conference "tournament" starts this weekend with a twist...since there's only 6 baseball schools in the Patriot they play a best 2 of 3 matchup in which 1 host 4 while 2 host 3. Then the following weekend the 2 winners play another "best 2 of 3" series
