Would you then end one media TO?
I was doubtful of the effect of quarters on the game, but after watching the Cards last night, I gotta say I prefer it.
The biggest advantage is in how the fouls are structured. With quarters, the 5th team foul puts you into the 2 shot bonus. No more 1 and 1 bonus. But, at the beginning of the next quarter, the foul count starts over. So ... the game doesn't slow down into free throw shooting contests which can ruin the flow of a game.
It also changes a media timeout, to when the quarter ends. So a net wash there.
But coaching becomes more important, as "end of half" strategy now happens 4 times instead of 2.
Anyway ... count me as one convert to changing the men's game to quarters.
The other changes the NIT are trying out I am not sure yet:
-- The wider lane -- well that could be good I guess. I am not sure yet.
-- The longer 3 point shot - I like having 3's in the game, so making it harder isn't a good thing IMO.
-- And the shot clock resetting to 20 seconds on an offensive rebound I guess is good. It would keep teams like Virginia from slowing the game down to a snail's pace I suppose.
