OK, let the speculation begin
That is half the fun of it. Any guesses?

Darrell Walker. Stephens provided the money to get his guy. I should add this is pure speculation.

RE: OK, let the speculation begin
My guess is that it will not be a ex-head coach unless that coach is moving up to come here. There is much less personal risk to Chasse to hire a good assistant, since his performance is less predictable. And right now there is considerable pressure on Chasse.

There should be a lot of interest in our spot, since in one sense it will be a very low-pressure spot. (Difficult to do much worse.) Even a mediocre season would look pretty good at this point, and combine that with the fact that the roster will be mostly recruited by Wes, and the incoming guy has a built-in mulligan.

I would say it is almost a certainty that Chasse will go back to the formula that worked: high-major assistant coach with a strong resume. Assuming we can get one.

Hard for me to believe the money didn't come from someone who is going to want some input.

It's not just Stephens money. Darrell is a big-time art collector and is very good friends with Alice Walton.

Walker is 24-5 this season with his 2nd straight trip to ncaa. His team faces claflin tomorrow in the ncaa. He lost to claflin in his conference tourney championship.

I seem to remember that Coach Beard was from a Division II job.

I’d be a lot more for Walker now than the last go around.

I agree. He is looking rather Beardesque in his currrent gig. But only if he beats out all the other national applicants fair and square.

I'm sure I'll question Chasse's decision making again in the future, just as I have on his decision to hire Wes. but I'll never question his balls, he's got a pair for sure. This should let all athletic department employees know, if you don't produce, "YOUR ASS IS FIRED."

We might hope he won't hire another successful college star from Little Rock though, they both set Trojan records for losses in a season. I can hear Sidney saying, "thanks Wes for breaking my record. Maybe nowTrojan fans will forget about me."

Wouldn't object to Darrell. That was why I liked the choice of Moncrief, that was until I watched him coach a while. I've always thought that it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a popular Hog player to be a successful coach at Little Rock. I still want to see that nationwide search happen though.

OK, I might be nuts to the guts, but hear me out. I have 2 possible candidates: Andy Kennedy and Becky Hammon. Kennedy turned Ole Miss around in his 12-year reign at Oxford from an also-ran to a SEC contender, before resigning last month. Now, Ms. Hammon not only played in the WNBA, but served the past 4 seasons as assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. She is more than ready to take that big step into coaching a D1 mens program. In fact, she about to be interviewed at Colorado State, her alma mater.

Okay Mickey, I confess. I donated 10 dollars to buy out Flannigan, and to get to name the new coach.04-cheers

If hiring a women's basketball coach was where we were headed, why not just ask the Hall Of Famer on staff to try his hand on the men's side?

Apparently, she is a Men's professional coach and getting a look from major D1 programs. What you said is the same as saying Foley is a men's coach already because he is a man. 05-stirthepot

And by all means if Becky Hammons is the best coach for the job then by all means hire her.

Didn't know the Spurs were a women's team. :)

One of the tropes that constantly goes around in touting a coach is taking a parental role with players who have come from less than ideal home situations.

If men can coach women, presumably women can coach men.

The problem a female coach faces is the opposition of:
Sports press: Mostly white older males
Donors: Life blood of a successful program, tends to be older white males.

As an older white male, my imagined hypothetical top candidate is going to be a younger go-getter male and probably white. I have no problem changing that hypothetical candidates race once I see a resume. Not sure how easily I change the gender.

When Walker's named was floated after Sheilds was let go, I was opposed to the idea. Like you, I had suffered through a former NBA Hog who had no college coaching experience and had no desire to repeat that experience.

This time around though, I feel differently. Walker has shown in the last two years that he knows how to coach college players. Sidney had no clue, and clearly demonstrated that there is a world of difference in coaching college and pros.

And given his connections in LR to $ people, could be also an asset to the program, no pun intended. And it is probably no coincidence that the story on Walker's success at Clark the last two years showed up in the ADG the same day that the story of Flanigans firing.
