according to bart torvik's efficiency rankings (very similar to kenpoms) houston has been the 8th best team in the country since February 1st. we have been the 6th best team.

houston is the 2nd best team in this conference. that kinda came out of nowhere.

Was there in person and the refs swallowed their whistles most of the game in reaction to the Houston fans as Houston starting to comeback after UCs fast start. Refs allowed the Cougars to slap hold and body bump.

Not surprising. Houston has been great lately.

top 30 in offense and defense. 38.9% as a team from 3. houston is a team nobody should want to see in the tournament.

Yeah, they have more potential to stay there to. Wichita loses everyone who plays significant minutes except Reaves and McDuffie (assuming Shamet goes pro), Houston loses Gray, Davis and Zanna. But they will still have 5 players who get big minutes (Davis Jr., Brooks, Robinson, White and Brady).

No doubt. I'll be happy if it's a close game, because they can be scary good (as can we). I'd love for us to blow'em out, but they seem to have grown a lot over the course of the season.

Really hope all three from the American can do a lot of damage in the tournament. Would certainly keep my interest longer.

I think UC, UH, and WSU are all capable of S16 and beyond.

Tigers don't change, expect UH to be in trouble soon. Trouble follows Sampson.

History repeats. Finch, Pastner, Memphis is cheatsville west.

Yep. Just try and recruit greater Memphis without AAU connections and handlers.

All Penny has to do is get one good class with those connections and get us hot again. It’s easier to recruit players to a good team.. We have everything it takes to be great. The stadium, fan base, brand new facilities.. all we need is a spark and we could turn into a power in this conference and you know it.

I understand the bashing tho, I wouldn’t want us to awake either lol 03-wink

Wow. You Memphidiots have always had an delusions of grandeur. You have 2 final fours in your history that have both been vacated for cheating. 03-lmfao Other than that you have nothing. You have always been on the outside looking in. Show me in your illustrious history where you are a top 25 program of al time. I'll wait. Oh, and the XII is not calling and never was. Most delusional fan base I have ever come across.

You sound like a rude ignorant bit... Im sure your fellow Cincy fans love you.. for you to think we have nothing and down play us as a good program just shows how truly stupid you are... did I hurt your feelings somehow in my optimistic response?

We've actually been to 3 Final Fours. Cincinnati has only been to the tournament 6 more times than us, and the last time you guys won more than two games in it was 1993... you guys are genuinely not gods compared to us.. maybe smu, tulsa, tulane etc.. us? no.

NCAA had an article over the top college basketball teams of all time actually.. and you're right we weren't in the top 25.. we were 26th..
darn.. link & the Big 12 comment is a big LOL considering neither one of us got picked up by them?

Who's delusional? pft 04-chairshot

Best of luck in the tournament though, this team looks like it could win more than 2 games.
Show off for our conference.

wrong, we went to the elite 8 in 1996 but yes, even that was too long ago and we've had many teams since then that should have and could have done that and chocked in the big dance.

I think Memphis has a storied history and is a high major program with the fanbase and facilities to match. It is actually for that very reason the whole hiring Penny thing makes zero sense to me. The guy needs to take over a low major or even mid major program and cut his chops first before taking on a program of Memphis' stature. I just can't believe anybody thinks this is a good idea. Heck, even if everyone could agree for him to be Tubby's first asst. for two or three years and be groomed it would be better than just naming him the head coach out of a high school program. He knows ZERO about running a college program.

In an ideal world Tubby would agree to take him on and groom him. Penny, in turn, would show some maturity of thought and soud judgment and agree. Tubby keeps his job, grooms Penny, and Penny gets to learn from a really good old time coach. Memphis fans win because those that want to keep Tubby are happy. Those that want Penny are happy (he's in the fold in waiting) and you don't have to pay Tubby out AND pay Penny. But that makes too much sense, I know. Plus, you'd probably STILL get the kids out of his high school. SMH.

I completely understand how this move looks wild. It's really a high risk high reward situation. It's hard to find someone who wanted to keep Tubby though. His team this year was one of the lowest rated Tiger teams ever believe it or not and our attendance has also dropped to the lowest in decades.. a few years back we were top 15 constantly. There is multiple factors that play into this move. A lot of them financial reasons. The vision is clear though. Penny is a Memphis legend who has many connections to top prospects. Our city flourishes with talent that we firmly believe he can get. With his players and a great assistant to teach him the ways I can see this being an ESPN 30 for 30 type story about how our program took a shot at something other fans laughed at that ended up getting us back on our feet. If you remember Josh you'll remember the forum rocking and Memphis basketball being alive. It could have stayed that way. His downfall was players leaving him. Penny comes off as someone players would highly respect and look up to. A coach players want to play for and dedicate themselves to. He is a sharp cool guy and and an NBA/Memphis legend. He is... Perfect. #GTG
