Starting QB - Great question.
RB - Shaping up to be a battle between Marcus Jones, Tre Harbison and Jordan Nettles with Tommy Mister in the mix as well. We'll be strong at RB.
TE - Mitch Brinkman, Daniel Crawford, Ty Harmston
WR - Wide open behind DJ Brown and Spencer Tears. Jauan Wesley has shown signs. Cole Tucker almost played last year so he should get reps. Wide open for freshmen to step up. Really dumb move by Parchment to leave. He'll never find a wider open situation than this one.
KR - No idea
K - Andrew Gantz.
P - Matt Ference. Strong special teams!
OL - Scharping, Shively and Steckler for sure. After that a battle between Nate Veloz, Ryan Roberts, Isaac Hawn, Benn Olson, Dale Brown and CJ Perez. Should be very strong.
DL - Sutton Smith, Jack Heflin, Ben Leroy and Josh Corcoran backed up by Drequan Brown, Quintin Wynne, Matt Lorbeck, Devin Webster and Weston Kramer.
LB - Kyle Pugh and Jawuan Johnson starting with a wide open battle for the other starter position and backups. Very interested to see if Danny Walker plays linebacker or end. Time for Corey Lersch and Andrew Gregory to step up. Heard good things about Mike Kennedy last year.
CB - Albert Smalls, Jalen Embry, Daniel Isom and maybe Antwain Walker, Justin Hall or some other freshmen.
S - Mykelti Williams, Trequan Smith, Trayshon Foster, Adam Buirge.
Which player coming in from the current recruiting class has a chance to play as a true Fr? Charles Robinson, Jyran Mitchell, Fotis Kokosioulis, Joe Bonds, Kewan Parker, Antwain Walker, Justin Hall, Zhamaine March, JD Harris, Devin Haney.
Which R-Fr will see playing time this year? Jordan Nettles, Cole Tucker, Dennis Robinson, Jordan Robinson, Danny Walker, Mike Kennedy, Dillon Thomas.
Who has you most excited? Strength at O line and D lines.
Who will you miss the most from last year's team? Bobby Jones, Shawun Lurry
Record prediction? 7-5 due to the brutal schedule
I am going with 8-4.

Isom may make up for Lurry's departure at least that is my hope.

Thanks! I forgot about TE in my original post.
I am hoping the Naperville Waubonsie Valley player will play this year.
If we can get the QB issue settled, and if our Defense plays lights out, should be a fun year. Need some more boneyard victories!

RE: Football 2018
Bold players are locked in as 1s.
QB-Childers
RB-Harbs
WR-Tears, Wesley, Brown
OL-Scharping, Olsen, Shively, Veloz, Hawn
DL-Smith, Kramer, Corley, Corcoran
LB-Johnson, Pugh, Jones-Davis
CB-Smalls, Embry
S-Willimas, Foster
Incoming Frosh: OT-Cox. Hawn & Steckler are decent, but not great. Roberts & Veloz are good back ups. The other tackles are just bodies.
Red-shirt Frosh: WR-Tucker. just based on lack of depth at wr he has a chance to get reps. I'd like it to be Rowell, but too many decent guys ahead of him right now.
Most excited about Pugh. He can be a great one. Next is Wesley. He has some long td's coming this year.
Will miss Lurry. Good or bad, he made things happen.
6-6. Until Childers can run the complete offense, NIU will struggle.

on that OLine...HAWN, I am expecting him to have a HUGE career here and be improved after playing as a true Fr. WE have some good OLineman. Need to weaponize Oline talent. Do not like our Rbs or run scheme. Wish we were not so run dependent on QB.

Tre Harbison will be the next big talent we have at RB. I haven’t been as excited about a back since Huffs freshman year. I think Stingly was really the last back we had that fit our tradition of great backs.
If he can steady his catching ability and succeed on pass blocking he’ll be a four down back for the next three years.

Having Pugh and Johnson makes this as solid of a LB crew as we have had. Our D could be incredible next year with these 2 LBs, Smith and Corcoran providing a solid nucleus.

Not a big fan of Wesley and brown. Just ordinary. I hope a couple of the young guys get time at WR. But I also hope Childers won't be qb. Maybe he'll get injured and open up a competition.

I don't wish bad things on anybody. I think the board is too hard on Childers. For a RS Fresh he played very well. I don't believe the coaching staff opened up the complete offense for him to try to limit his mistakes and have him gain confidence. If he works on throwing the ball downfield and with accuracy he could be a very good QB. That is possible and he may have already progressed to that level, we just don't know.

What do you not like about Wesley? The mere fact that he's the fastest wr NIU has had in a long time is enough to want him on the field. Once he got there he averaged 25 yds a catch. Admittedly his strength is Childers weakness, but that's not his fault.
Brown is pretty average. I hope Koko brings some play making to that position now that they moved him.

I think you could probably bold Kramer and Leroy at D tackles. Both were very solid this year and I’d be pretty surprised if they were overtaken.

Heflin was the actual starter at DT along with Leroy at start of year. This is a spot that has continuous rotation and sometimes the DE's move into the DT area. It's not so much as who's the starter as who's available. D. Webster played a bunch early on but then not much later.

RE: Football 2018
I'm with JWN on Kramer. He gets off the ball faster than Heflin and looks to be the most athlete of the tackles. We usually want a run stuffer at tackle, but I think Kramer may be able to get into the backfield a little. The other tackle spot may need a big body.

Be shocked if Cox plays this year. He would have to be a special player to start.

if we're going to ban actual contributors for thread jacking hopefully we can get a ban for basically hoping a player a gets hurt
board is down enough contributors, we dont need this junk

I like big receivers. Are you talking about that midget recruit? I think high end special teamer for him. We have bigger, more athletic guys, who have time in the program.
How fast is Wesley? I figure tears can stretch the D. He's a transfer taking snaps away from our young core. Probably why I don't like him. Why transfer in a position of depth. With a s,hitty qb, big targets will help.

I like big WRs on the outside. But in the slot where its mostly short passes I like a short quick WRS like TommyLee Lewis. Brown and koko are both 5'9". I'd bet Brown has that spot locked up, but I'd like to see someone with more big play potential. Maybe that guy is koko. Coming from the rb position he looks very elusive with the ball.
Wesley ran 10.74 100m. That's flying. That made him the 21st fastest WR recruit in the country in 2015(ranked by verified 100m times). For comparison, Da'ron Brown ran 10.94 and TommyLee Lewis was 11.05.
