Why not? The AAC did. Its small time thinking that will lead to our situation never improving.

AAC is not a brand new conference, it is Big East football.

Right, the Big East is the new conference but bought the name

Wow can't believe our fans clicked on a link that talks about ODU. I'm very shocked.

But yet it is brought over here, and conference mates are not supposed to click it ?

Double standard much ?
Check the fanhood of the person who posted the article here.

Sent from my SM-G920V using CSNbbs mobile app

So we're supposed to keep up with which columnists our conference mates have a beef with?

Some non-ODU fan posts an ODU article and you all get mad at ODU fans for telling you not to click it. You are free to do whatever you want obviously. I don't speak for every ODU fan, but most of us are just letting you know most of us don't take this content seriously.

Yea but their mafia ties were outed with a point shaving scandal. They haven't been the same since.

I wonder if Harry has ever seen where Tulane plays basketball. Saying Fogelman Arena is a dump most schools wouldn't even think about wanting is an understatement. It claims to have 3600 seats but one year when we played there Steve Cotton the voice of Marshall and Woody Woodrum counted the seat capacity there and came up with 2782.

Fogelman Arena at Devilin Fieldhouse

I don't care if Marshall never schedules anything not even jacks with Tulsa or Tulane ever again. Two of the most bland and disengaged fan bases Ive ever seen.

The AAC is CUSA. CUSA is Sun-Belt 2.0.

After last night's crushing defeat, maybe ODU should be looking at the MEAC. Congrats again Toppers.

Seems like a strange time for such an article when both CUSA basketball and football have had pretty good seasons. Still a fair amount of room for improvement, but it hasn't been a bad year for the conference.

They were pretty good back when Hot Rod Williams was playing for them.

RE: ODU plans to leave CUSA. Enjoy 1-AA
My theory.

Wood Selig wants this.
Harry Minimum you can dismiss but the fact is someone leaked to him that CUSA's TV deal was cut after the defections and would be cut more. Think that was the league office or ODU telling him that?
When Slive said he thought 16 was right and media close to the league office started writing about two western additions, it was Minimum who wrote that ODU and MTSU wanted an eastern add to balance one western with JMU being the target and 16 died a quiet death.

Now I once had an opportunity to be around a lot of the Sun Belt folks prior to WKU making the decision to go FBS. I was sitting near Selig and the UALR AD and Selig was arguing that the Sun Belt hoops schools should defect because the football emphasis was killing basketball in the league.

So I know as a dead certain fact that Selig at least once has seen himself as the leader to start a new league.

My theory is Selig wants an eastern league that goes no further west than the Mississippi River, if that far west.

He for whatever reason believes there is some value in leaking that and encouraging a column that speaks of an eastern league being better for ODU.

Maybe he wants something to reinforce what he's been encouraging. Maybe he hopes the fans of eastern schools will see it and agree and start lobbying their administrations. Maybe he just wants to create an atmosphere of uncertainty that will cause people to listen more to his idea.

I think the logical takeaway is ODU wants an eastern league but does not have the critical mass to make it happen, at least not at this point.

Selig wants the same thing every AD in C-USA wants, an AAC invite.

ODU would be a top candidate if the AAC expands due to budget, location, and enrollment.

Harry has rehashed the same idea practically every quarter to drum up page views. You can almost set your calendar to it. He's essentially a clickbait artist at this point. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy. But, yeah, he may as well work for buzzfeed.

And any leaks he got while working the ODU beat, stopped years ago when Ed Miller took over.

Probably not but Selig, Massaro and Stewart collectively do, and I have been advocating to Massaro that he needs to get with the other two and figure out how to make this happen.

I believe the fear is loss of automatic bids particularly for MBB. That is likely the only thing standing in the way.

After what happened with the Big East and American, the NCAA has completely lost me on how you gain, retain, etc. an automatic bid. It seems like they moved the goal posts to protect certain schools (namely the Catholic basketball schools) - I hardly doubt they would do that for anyone in C-USA.

If the rule of seven schools with eight years together is necessary to gain/retain an autobid, MT, wkcc, ODU, Marshall, Charlotte, USM, UAB (and either of the Fla schools or La Tech) won't achieve that until 2021. But again I don't know if that even matters to the NCAA any longer. The by laws are a cluster of interpretation these days on this subject, and I don't fully know what the enforcement looks like or even the intent other than to protect the P5.

I understand Selig wants a tighter footprint. I think everyone sees that it is needed but helping out JMU move up does nothing for ODU - that one shorter trip is negated by the layer of competition added particularly in recruiting. Liberty makes absolutely no sense on any front. A tighter conference can be achieved with the core of C-USA east, perhaps one or two schools in the current Sun Belt and maybe even Ohio (which if you build a potential multi bid basketball conference I believe they would listen).

Lastly, aligning simply on geographic bounds alone is bad policy. There is an opportunity for the schools east of the Mississippi that are committed to a common level of competitiveness that could compete both for the top G5 conference in football while also consistently developing prospective multi-bid hoops teams for the NCAA Tournament. That should be our first focus. Geography second. Not the other way around.

Ain't no body setting up their conference by making a nice neat geographic arrangement.
Compatibility and fit are number one.
You don't want anyone so close you compete for media time in the media market.
After you get outside that exclusion zone you want the closest schools who fit rule one. Compatibility and fit.
