Peneva is a 3/4 playing the 5 out of necessity. When we add bulk next year he should have a special season by getting out of the paint more.

Monarchs - sorry I am a little late to the discussion. That last bit of Cajun fried crow got stuck on the way down! Better now...
Big time respect for your guys tonite. Every time I thought we were coming back, one of your guys (Stith) nailed a 3. And some of those 3’s were contested.
You guys looked pretty tired towards the end & Coach Jones did a good job of subbing
them in & out. We tried hard, & def had our chance @ the
end. ODU made plays and controlled the offensive glass very effectively
tonite. Caver does a great job of running the offense, but you gotta give West credit. He dogged Ahmad all game long. That could be one reason for his turnovers (8!)
tonite. I s/w a nice couple from ODU after the game. They apparently travel to most of the road games (sat behind your bench tonite) They said their 2 fav road games are Huntington & Bowling Green. Again, you guys earned a hard-fought win against a capable MU squad. Hope we see you in Texas! 2 other things: will be interesting to see what you-all have left in the tank for WKU Sat night. And Coach Jones seems to still be struggling with a cough. Great atmosphere tonite in the Cam...
Go Herd!!

Good game. Congrats and tip of hat to ODU. Excellent team. Defensively strong as usual but offense appears to have caught up.

Two things happen to Jones during the season on which you can expect: He will develop this annoying cough that worsens over the season and he will regain the lbs he works so hard to lose in the off-season.

With that said, ODU basketball is having a really fun year, with manageable losses for next year. Much better than what JJ inherited.

Agree. I don't see any weakness in ODU's game, strong on both ends of the floor. Their discipline on both ends was the difference tonight. Congratulations. BTW I felt the officiating tonight was reasonably good, let them play so there was some flow to the game.

Defensive player of the year cannot be all about blocked shots. He was absolutely horrific on the defensive end. I now know why he leads by so much in blocked shots. The guards can't keep anyone in front of them, so he gets plenty of opportunities. He is very skilled offensively. That pass he made was ridiculous.

Penava didn't have the best night, but Porter isn't better. Penava still had a double-double with 14 pts, 10 boards. Porter was 11 pts, 4 boards. Add in Penava's 5 blocks and it's no contest. Porter does win for the most elbows thrown and whining like a baby on the floor.04-cheers

You mean when he was on the floor about 2 1/2 minutes into the game because one of your big guys drug him to the ground and fell on top of him as they were positioning for a rebound?

Or maybe it was when Penava put him on the floor by grabbing his jersey at the neck from behind and doing a horse collar take down as Porter had gotten by him down low in the second half? Video review of the play awarded him 2 foul shots and possession (flagrant 1).

No, then it must have been a while later in the second half when Penava hit him in the face as Porter was shooting from the right side of the basket down low? Porter was immediately taken out of the game for a couple minutes to get checked out. It should have been another foul on Penava and another video review. I don't think that Penava meant to hit him in the face on the play, but it happened and hard contact above the shoulders is supposed to be reviewed.

As for the points and rebounds differential between the two players, you do realize that Penava played over twice as many minutes as Porter? When it came time at the end to decide the game, Porter came up bigger than Penava - no contest.

All that being said ... Whether you were a Marshall fan, an ODU fan, or just a fan of college basketball, that was a spirited, hard fought game played out by two good teams that was fun to watch. It was better suited for one of the major networks than having to be viewed on the likes of Stadium, Stadium Facebook, Bein, ESPN3, or worse yet C-USATV.

That was one of the most entertaining games I’ve watched all year, and not just because ODU won. It was very well played by both teams, back-and-forth throughout, exciting, dramatic and a great crowd. I hope all of our games are like that between us and the Herd.

Dantoni has done a great job of rebuilding Marshall hoops. Your team is GOOD!!

As someone said earlier, this is why we should change the tournament format to higher seeds hosting. It’s so much more compelling when there’s an active, energetic crowd.

I agree with everything you said wsherdfan. A lot of guys on both teams played heavy minutes tonight in s hotly contested ball game. Marshall has nothing to hang their heads about. Contest could easily have gone the other way with one or two breaks going their way in the last minute or two. Good luck till our teams meet again.

By the way, Crow isn't as bad as many people think. We have had to dine on it a time or two ourselves.

+ Having a great crowd into the game will take the game to another level and i would rather play games like this than having couple of hundred folks surfing their phones in a small sized gym. Great crowd Marshall and that was an entertaining game all the way till the end.

If Marshall could get a talented power type of guy inside - say a grad transfer - to compliment Elmore, Penava, and your other guards then no one is going to look forward to playing Marshall next season. Offensive rebounding was probably the big difference in tonight's game, with turnovers a close second.

Oh don't worry about that, we already have a trick up our sleeve with the name Iran Bennett. 6'10" and we'll over 300 pounds.

I just read a post by one of the practice junkies and he thinks that Iran will only contribute 4-5 minutes in Danny's system because Iran has trouble with his weight.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I saw the picture. Dude is built like a MAC truck, but MAC trucks aren't really well known for being fast and agile. Maybe he's deceptively fast, but I don't know how he'd be able to run up and down the court all day playing Marshalls "10 seconds is too long" offense.

ODU is clearly the better team this year. Having Stith come on board for this year has really helped them.

I appreciate the sentiment but none of the Stiths are new to the team this year.
