Serious, there is a heavy influence of Gauguin style in her paintings, especially the Michelle Obama one.
Ah, Barack and Michelle had 2 separate artists paint their portraits. Barack's painting was done by Kehinde Wiley while Michelle's was done by Amy Sherald. Amy's art has less detail and is probably more like your suggestion of Gauguin as her influence. However, Kehinde's style is nothing like Gauguin IMHO.

History will record obama and his spouse in the same vein as Farrakhan, Byrd, Rev Wright, David Duke. I may not live to see it but mark my words. This era of racism (both way's) is annoying.

Serious question for Ericsrevenge76 because I know nothing about the bible. Do you believe the artist was inspired by the bible?
The artist says the two paintings that are being talked about in this thread were inspired by the Biblical story of Judith beheading the Assyrian general Holoferne. At the time, the artist told The New York Times that he was inspired by the classical European depictions of Bible stories by Caravaggio and Gentileschi, only he chose to depict Judith as a black woman and Holoferne as a white woman. He commented: “It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing”.

Here's one painting of that incident, which is from the Book of Judith. It's a painting from the year 1613 by Cristofano Allori.

Sure he could have. Artists are often inspired by one another's work, and there are a lot of classic works on different events in the OT.
You wouldn't have to know the bible much to understand that fact.

Judith is one of seven books not found in a "protestant" bible and considered apocryphal. I dont think Eric is a catholic, so I doubt you can bait him with the theological inference.
But to answer your point, the art in the OP is parochial in technique and fatuously divisive in content. Comparing it to the paintings noted in your post is akin to comparing a ford pinto to a ferrari. In other words, as any fourth grader using google could point out, they are both cars.

I don't believe the book to be inspired at all.

Tell the artist, don't tell me. He said that's what inspired him - six years ago.

Beautiful painting.
I enjoy the work of John William Waterhouse. Also, plenty of other great artists from this era of art.

One of my favorites
Look at the differences in these two and the garbage from the Obama artist. The detail in both of these paintings is obvious. They were painstakingly done and it shows. It looks like the Obama artists copy and pasted background images. There's no way he painted all the items on the backgrounds.
This pretty much sums up the entire Obama era. No attention to detail, lazy, generic methods...
