I agree, but there are a couple of things to consider.

First, "nutjob" doesn't actually mean anything specific.

Second, establishment politicians embrace some of these "nutjobs" and hold them in high esteem.

Robert Byrd had 57-some-odd years of total service in Congress. That's a long time for a klansman to hold elected office.

Did any of his fellow house and senate members call for his removal? If so, how would that list compare to the list of those who embraced him?
