Not going to matter. It's a heavy D district. Not a great look for the R's though to not at least put up a card board cutout against him.

There are no real Republican politicians in Illinois. This article evens alludes to the fact this guy ran because he realized there was nobody else running for the slot.

I'm just asking a question. Obviously, if you meet all the qualifications stipulated by the law, you can run for office. I'm simply asking if political parties have any say whatsoever in who can run under their party label.

Can any Joe Schmo, so long as they obtain X amount of signatures run for any party they choose?

It is Dan Lipinski's district. There is zero chance a Republican would beat him, which is why there is not a real candidate. This clown got enough signatures, so he's on the ballot. The Republicans would never waste time and resources on a candidate in this district.
