It sure does. Watching these Tigers play basketball reduces my life span by at least a month per game. LOL

The case can be made that none of these games mean anything anymore.

Very discouraging.

You know what will happen today? All of the posters critical of Tubby will say I told you so. Then we will win a few in a row or have a good win and those supporting Tubby will say I told you so.

None of it matters and even though some are mocking the announcers for saying that it is only year two, it IS only year two. The only thing that matters is whether or not Tubby is building a program, building things where we can expect improvement; putting the pieces to a roster together so that we can expect to move forward.

So honestly, losing today bothers me but it bothers me a lot less than many posters. The team played super hard, they are all exceeding my expectations for them and they are fun to watch. The problem is that if we lose to ECU or beat Wichita State, Tubby isn't building a program. He isn't putting us in a position to be good next year, the year after or any other year after that.

He is holding things together with glue, string, staples and duct tape. It just isn't going to happen with him as our coach.

I agree but I'm also confused about the idea that Tubby will coach up kids and not lose games to 250+ rpi teams.

Because everything has to go right for us to beat a Temple or Cincinnati or Alabama and if things go bad our players are ranked in the 200-250 range and we aren't going to win on talent alone.

When Tubby builds a roster like he did at Minnesota and Texas Tech, you catch lightning in a bottle by having the best of these lowly ranked recruits gain experience and you luck out along the way with some of the young kids panning out.

Tubby has always lost to inferior teams; he has done it his whole career, but at the same time he "puts it all together" to do just enough to make the tournament a little less than half the time.

RE: The ECU Game Doesn't Really Mean Anything
Let's pretend that we just lost to ECU and every single player from our 2017 class was a freshman and Tubby signed 4 top 100 players for next year, including a top 75 point guard. I would honestly be behind Tubby. Tubby wasn't asked to perform miracles, just to do his job. I'm not sold on the idea that Tubby is a great bench coach, but you would have to think it would have been so easy for him to recruit much better than he has.

I agree with everything here except the fallacy that “this team plays super hard”. I think someone said that after a short spell of very good effort and it stuck. I think Martin almost has to pace himself and he does it on D. Some of the other guys do too. Most are playing too many minutes last few games to sustain great effort. I loved Cal’s system of you better play your butt off and if you are tired raise your hand. IMO this team plays with above average effort and that’s it.
