If college ball is just an entertainment operation this makes great sense, but for those who are in it for the college experience and an education it is complete bull.
Frustrating.
Honestly, quite the opposite IMO. It's not good entertainment for the majority of fans who don't follow the top schools. It's good for the athletes to be able to make choices on their future freely.

So maybe entertainment is the wrong word. Is it just an illusion these players come here to get an education? Coach Lester emphasized our success in recruiting had a component that our educational offerings and our institution are attractive. Under this transfer setup, the idea of getting involved in say the engineering or business college seems less important than just spending a year or two and the transferring to the appropriate football program. So then it is more athlete/student. Maybe I am naive, yes?

RE: NCAA transfer ruling
This is a terrible idea. They should have to sit out if the transfer is their choice. If a head coach leaves, then you make it so they don't have to sit out. It's that simple. This is only going to lead to a widespread breaking of the rules that the NCAA claims to want to uphold. You think tampering with guys like Robert Spillane and Asantay Brown is an isolated incident. This rule will make tampering with players an every hour occurrence let alone an every day one.
The P5 coaches think they probably want this rule, but they don't. You will have guys and their parents forcing them to switching schools on an annual basis. Programs won't even know who to recruit because every kid that goes P5 thinks they should be a star could leave at the drop of a hat.

Thought I heard that there would be a ONE time transfer without having to sit out, so players would not be transferring annually.
Anyone else hear that?

The link early in this thread mentions one time transfer.
Update from SI.

Yeah, obviously I didn't see that when I made the post. That makes it better but only slightly.

NCAA transfer ruling
Would still be absolutely crushing for G5 schools when we land big talent.

RE: NCAA transfer ruling
Potentially devastating if a team has a disappointing season or a DC/OC departs for a better job. Imagine having to try to retain your core underclassmen under those circumstances. Coaching turnover can result in a good number of your anticipated returning/future starters leaving and gutting a team for several years. If being a G5 coach isn’t hard enough this will make it exponentially less appealing to stay.

"MAC FOTY" terminology will change to "P5 First-Round Draft Pick."
I know an upside would be potentially cherry picking mid-level P5 players who are itching for playing time. But feels like the P5 poaching of underclassmen breakout stars from the G5 would far outweigh that.

Bet you see talk again of G5 post season playoff to increase exposure. Wouldn't it be interesting if top 4 G5's played for the single berth in NY's bowl?

Probably wouldn’t have affected WMU that much last year as kids will still be barred from following the former coach to previous school.

RE: NCAA transfer ruling
Proposal would have kept Tavian Dunn-Martin & Michael Hughes from following Dambrot from Akron to Duquesne
