I'm sure he is nice.... but should he be a church deacon or something that lends it self to his nice nature? You're not getting recruits from being nice. You'll get good conversations over coffee but probably not top 150 recruits...

No one wants to destroy Tubby or Esposito character...but can they do the job well today...not 10 years ago or 5 years ago...now here at Memphis?

Joe has been the guy who has gotten the recruits that we have. If the other coaches had brought in two recruits apiece, at the same level as Davenport and Johnson, then we'd be better off. We wound up having to sign Joe's B and C recruits, since the other coaches whiffed.

I don't know who is responsible for what recruit...To me Tubby is .responsible. He's the 3MM dollar guy. His staff is his business so I group them collectively.

now I understand

It doesn't matter who is responsible for what recruit...THEY TELL THEIR PLAYERS that basketball is a TEAM SPORT...so that is how i will evaluate them Coach on down to managers

I agree. It is Tubby's team of recruiters. He is responsible.

These Tubby recruiters do not agree on which players they want on our team. Sometimes we might have the opportunity to recruit over our incoming JUCOs...but there is no consensus.

Frankenstein's monster and Tubby are similar in that you get rid of both by fire.

Not that version. I'm thinking the Gene Wilder one.

The old Frankenstein movie was sad. The monster was misunderstood. He just wanted to be loved.

That's a pretty good analogy.

Reminds mea of a real life situation in college.

What kind of party are you talking about? You aren’t going to get the girls drunk on $100 dollars of craft beer. I’d take 10 cases of the beast.

If that's the goal, beer is the wrong choice in general.

Or at least not the kind of girls you have in mind.

Could have used a better analogy, at least the Beast is drinkable.

Many craft beers are not.

has there ever been a team that could not sign their share of recruits? No. Of course not there are always players that will accept scholarships. The real trick is getting players that other good programs are willing to offer.

What does that even mean?

And, just for asking, you realize Memphis only had nine scholarship players in 2016 and only has 11 this year?

Hint: the scholarship limit is 13.

It means that ANYONE can sign players. Signing full recruiting classes or signing local prospects means nothing- what matters is signing good players who are willing to be coached and can play the style you are going to play.

It looks like we have signed a bunch of substandard players who wont run the plays that the head coach calls-- not ideal recruiting

Won't run the plays that the head coach calls.

Is Tubby calling plays from his bench seat there?

I heard Gillen during the LSU game.

He'd appreciate you removing you head from his a$$.
