We kept our turnovers down. If we rebounded a little better and make one more 3, we win.

RE: Middle Tennessee thread - Give the Blue Raiders the Blues
In a one possession loss there are a lot of plays that could have turned it into a win. The one that sticks out to me is when UAB was up 1 and Sullivan forced King into a tough shot. He got his own rebound, scored, and was fouled. We never led again.
Much better defense from the Blazers. Overall, it was our poor outside shooting imo that doomed UAB. We had a lot of open looks. Hard to beat anybody decent when shooting 28.6 from out there.

Wish all of our games were on it. The repertoire with the fans online and between the sideline and playbyplay guys is engaging.
My only complaint is I wish they used a mid arena cams instead of the top. Move the UAB cams to give TV the better spots.
But, I still cannot grasp the revenue model. 1700 fans even if all were engaged does not make up for the loss of advertising revenue. The model is doomed.

As the guy behind me said, it’s strange pulling the two-time defensive player of the year for defense and putting him back in for offense.

Our threes were reasonably good looks but it felt like we needed an extra half second and we would have made a few more. But MTSU plays tough D. They limit their mistakes and they play like every possession matters. And it does.

He only got that award for blocking shots, not for actually playing defense. Btw. 0 blocks tonight
Yes, he was ineffective defensively. They knew his strength and made sure he wasn't blocking their shots.
I just felt like Coke would have been more effective but they were good at keeping him 3-4 feet out from his comfort level.

Biggest & best game of the year. Just 4143 fans. Ticket Prices are too high for the level of team we are.
With 1500-2000 more fans, UAB wins.

Middle Tennessee went ten deep. Ehsan is "wearing six guys out", subbing Sullivan in for 12 minutes and Gueye for 2 minutes(none in the second half). Sure, Gueye is still green and restricting his shots to three pointers(not so smart) and picked up two quick fouls(not so smart). You are right. He is not ready, yet. He will never be ready if he only plays two minutes per game. We also are not going to win many games in conference play by going only six deep. Somehow Ehsan is going to have to give Sullivan and Gueye more minutes for this team to become a better team as conference play goes on. Otherwise we will be lucky to win twenty games by the time the conference tournament comes around and still be only six or seven deep, which won't carry us very far in the conference tournament.

Gene never went very deep for this reason. Possessions matter. To MTSUs credit, their bench doesn't hurt them. You cant play Gueye or Smallwood in a close game where 1 possession is the difference between winning and losing. Lavender, if he just had an outside shot, might have helped. Would not expect Nate & Jalen to go just 2 of 8 on reasonably good looks.

Hindsight is 20-20 but I felt like if we could have increased the pace a little, it might have helped get the crowd into it more. But, MTSU was playing ODU like defense.

We can go deeper versus the weaker parts of our conference and still be able to win. We haven't played a game 21 days. Those 7 guys should be rested.

No. Basketball fans in Birmingham are almost non existent. The few that were there today are UAB fans. Its got nothing to do with the price of the ticket. You can't blame the schedule for todays turnout.
I think everything combines to keep people away. Poor schedule, ticket prices, weather.
We drew more in the early years of the BJCC. I guess many of them died off.

Strange indeed. But more than justified. Haha was so out of position on multiple sequences down the stretch. That whole last minute made my eyes bleed.

We have already established the fact that conference win/loss record is "meaningless". We are simply playing eighteen conference games to prepare for the conference tournament. How, on earth, is this team going to get any better by wearing out six players in the process? Sullivan is a beast. Gueye has a lot of potential. Those two have to get in there every game and improve by the time conference tournament comes around. Just like the past few seasons, it's either win the conference tournament or...end of season. I'm just looking at the big picture.

Two guys scored 78% of MTSU's points. I'm no genius, but seems like we probably should have done more to stop them.
