Far fetched but Canada has never been HC before so maybe it's good opportunity for both.

Please. Why such a low ceiling. Canada in an OC at best. Les Miles, then maybe Canada. After buyouts, they both will settle for less, maybe like 500k combined. I am sure STF can convince them just so they can both stick it to LSU.
They wouldn’t be settling. I don’t think you understand how it works.
Anything NIU would give them isn’t in addition to their LSU contract.

With Matt Canada finally being released in a day or two, STF has to at least make a phone call right? The money could be right with LSU having to cover the difference in contracts. The timing could be right with most coaching and coordinator positions filled across the country. Most of our recruits are already signed, and I doubt many would balk and leave with a well known name coming from a well known school.
Sure he would only be here a year or two most likely. But our offense needs a shot in the arm and some innovation. And the talented young defense and defensive coordinator could stay in place since Canada and Kane already have worked together some.
The football program is treading water with tired arms. This could be exactly what it needs to get the momentum going again

Can you please explain exactly how the bolded text is true? If winning 8 games and going to a bowl is treading water then I can only imagine what would happen after multiple ACTUAL losing seasons.
Look, I get it, nobody is a fan of Carey including myself. But we should all get the idea out of our heads thinking that NIU is going to pony up money to buyout Carey's contract when he only has one season left on it.

RE: Speaking of Matt Canada
The thought is we backload his contract so we can cover Carey's buyout and pay him minimal next year then goes back to a normal salary after that.
He may not have other offers, is getting paid either way and puts in few good years and parlays it into a bigger job by the time his lsu money runs out. It's worth a call.
I'd have to agree with treading water. Last 2 years (years 4 and 5 are most telling for a college coach). He's 13-12 I believe.

By treading water I mean the program was really trending upwards from the early 2000s until the bcs game then the undefeated regular season the next year. Then the loss to bowling green prevented a second straight bcs game. From that point we went from possibly becoming one of the premier group of 5 programs to now just being decently competitive group of 5 team. A coaching change with the guy with the potential of Canada would be the shot in the arm the program needs to get it moving upward again

As much as everyone wants a new OC, coach U is paid over 100k, so not sure we could even afford paying that. The football team needs all the funds it can get. Im not sure if assistants at smaller schools are year to year contracts or how that works tho

Well Canada was let go so I'm not sure he is a slam dunk.
Our success with Jordan Lynch under Doeren and Carey was much less to do with coaching than the great talent Lynch was to the college game. He was fun to watch and we may never see someone like Lynch at NIU again or the level of success experienced with Lynch again.

You're on a dumb message board in 2018...hell no.
Maybe special teams coordinator?. Carey gives that to grad assistants, how important can it be?!
