He still makes some freshman mistakes, but I'd like to see more of him.
Thanks for the update. Great to hear that AJ will have another season. But what does that do for the scholarship situation? Assuming no one transfers and all the current scholarship players keep their scholarships (as well as the new signees), I think that puts Rice at 14 scholarships in 2018-19.
I was surprised that Jones and Meyer had so few combined minutes if the opponent had such a size advantage.

I was a big Meyers fan heading into the season, but he has played awful at both ends of the court. A head scratcher.

The only way to look at this season at this point is to look towards building for 2018/2019 season. It is time to cut back on Bishop Mency's minutes, despite his defensive presence and his leadership work on the floor and to give more PT to Najja Hunter and Robert Martin. The team cannot run their offence successfully with Bishop shooting .286 from beyond the arc, and shooting 63 times from downtown. Harrison needs more court time to improve as well, but I sometimes shudder with the mistakes he has made on the court.

Bishop is the team captain and leader, and he's arguably the best defensive player on the team. And it's not as if he takes that many shots. If anything, he frequently passes up the open shot. Martin is getting plenty of playing time as it is. I'm not convinced either Hunter or Harrison is the answer. Again, I'm holding out judgement until Connor and AJ are both playing together for several games. We are obviously desperate for a second scoring threat.

Fair comment about the number of shots he takes and as I stated, (and you also assert) he provides leadership and defense to this team. However, there is such a need for a 2nd scorer from the perimeter, I think Coach Pera needs to give some of his minutes to a player that can be that number two threat. of the 86 shots he has attempted, 63 of them have been from beyond the arc and .286 does not cut it. I really like Bishop's attitude and hard work and thought he should have been used more last year. This year's team needs to find some additional offence. If that is A.J., then the minutes are going to have to come from somewhere. Malik has earned his additional time on the court while A.J. has been out. I think the only reasonable place to find minutes is to begin to limit Bishop's court time.
