Isn't this where Hillary went to school? (12-21-2017 04:03 PM)Traveler413 Wrote: https://slate.com/sports/2017/12/wesleya...iness.html
Interesting that Wesleyan, despite its Division III status and membership in the NESCAC, shares some of the same issues as a few D1 FBS schools.

That would be Wellesley.

Wellesley has football recruitment issues even more pronounced than a typical liberal arts or D3 school from what I can gather.

RE: OT - Wesleyan U: Liberal Arts Football Factory
In reading this article, I have a few other takeaways that are directly applicable to Rice:
1) Even in D3, athletic performance and school spirit can have a major impact on school applications and alumni fundraising
2) Even in D3, schools are needing to spend multi-millions to have adequate facilities
3) Even U of Chicago brought football back
I think this article is not questioning the importance of athletics in a modern university, it is discussing the challenges of making sure recruiting athletes doesn't compromise the academic goals of the university, which something I think Rice does better than many.
