How do you get Allison and Sanders as analogous? Allison was an assistant at Auburn, but never won a title. He was part of Terry Bowden’s staff. After that he’s at Clemson but they were nothing like Clemson today, and he coached defensive ends. That’s a pretty big stretch.

The reaction by some regarding this hire is strange to me. Randy Sanders probably wasn't going to get a Power 5 head coaching position right now. He very well may have been able to get another FBS level (maybe even another Power 5 level) OC job if he wanted it. And that fact makes him a better candidate than pretty much anyone else that we were discussing as possible candidates. We can argue about Chadwell assuming that we could have gotten him, but clearly (to me at least) this is *at least* a good hire, if not a very good hire.

Jamey Chadwell was never coming, he will be the next HC at Coastal Carolina after Mogila retires.

How anyone can blast this hire is beyond my comprehension. Time will tell whether he is a good head coach, but based on resume, he exceeds my expectations on what we could have gotten. I believe all fans should defer to Scott Carter's judgment on whether Sanders is the best fit. He certainly has credentials to make him legit.

And I have confidence that he won't be clinging to the world's worst running game nine weeks into the season.

Just consider the source. The same ones that have all the answers to subjects they have no experience in will always be standing around the edges.

Same people that thought Jon Gruden was going to Tennessee probably thought Mike Smith was coming back to ETSU

From Soconsports.com

What others are saying about Coach Randy Sanders…

Phillip Fulmer – Tennessee Athletic Director and College Hall of Fame head coach
Randy Sanders is as good a coach as I worked with during my 40 years of coaching. He is smart, tough, a great game planner, and at his best calling plays on game day. Randy is excellent at identifying and recruiting talent. He and Cathy are wonderful people and the people of East Tennessee will enjoy having them back home.

Peyton Manning – Former Tennessee Quarterback
Coach Sanders was a strong early influence on me as a prospect and as a player in my years at Tennessee. With his football knowledge and abilities as a recruiter and leader, ETSU has a bright future both on and off the field.

Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback
Coach Sanders work ethic, humility and preparation was a huge part to my success as a player. He never got too high or too low. His ability to stay calm and confident helped me tremendously at the quarterback position, but it also helped me grow as a young man. I’m am so thankful that I had a coach that was able to lead and coach me into a player that understood I must take advantage of every opportunity.

Mike Smith – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator and former ETSU player
Randy Sanders is a highly respected coach and an outstanding fit for ETSU. I look forward to supporting him and celebrating championship-level success in the future. Go Bucs!

David Cutcliffe – Duke football head coach
Randy Sanders had great football knowledge as a player, but more importantly he was a great leader and teammate. He was a great football coach from his first day on the job at Tennessee! He’s an outstanding man, friend, and person. Randy is one of the most respected teachers of quarterbacks in our game. He’s the perfect fit at ETSU. I’m excited for Randy, Cathy, and his family!

RE: Sanders is the man.
A great hire! This is why you don't rush a search or take the path of least resistance. Sanders is well respected in the coaching community (pissed off Tennessee fans excluded) has a wealth of coaching experience, and ties to many top level assistants. The pool of potential assistants alone should have us all very excited. On top of all that, Sanders is an offensive coach taking over a team with vast offensive problems.

The only big downside I see is that Sanders is use to having high level resources at his disposal. How he navigates the roster/scholarship restrictions, not being any recruits/assistant's first choice, and not having the financial resources that he is accustomed to will be the biggest adjustment.

RE: Sanders is the man.
In his interview on the monster this morning Sanders said that he spent about 4 hours on the phone last night until midnight with potential staff members, and has gotten commitments from many of them.

Selfishly, I do wish that he was taking on our job full time right now instead of coaching in Florida State's bowl game. I understand why he is doing it, but we need a staff put together quickly and hopefully some effort to get some recruits signed tomorrow.

Can he recruit for ETSU, per NCAA, while still on the FSU payroll?

The new coach for UT is doing it.

I don't see completing the season with FSU is an issue as it pertains to recruits. Dec. 18-Jan. 11 is a dead period anyway. He would probably get his staff together a little quicker, but in the end I don't think it will matter much.

I think this is a terrific hire. It gives the program instant credibility and is a statement of our intent to compete at the highest level of FCS and, if the opportunity presents itself, beyond. No coach in the school's history has Sanders' qualifications as an offensive coach. We should be a really fun team to watch in the years to come.

RE: Sanders is the man.
As many of you know I go to Daniel Boone High School, Randy Sanders is the uncle of our star-spohomore RB Charlie Cole. Just thought that was interesting, but once again excited to see what he does with the staff and in recruiting.

Some details on Sanders contract. Making less than Torbush but can make more with incentives.

I like this structure and honestly thought that Sanders would cost us more.

Was skeptical of Scott Carter hire, but he has done a very good job so far (other than the petty $5 charge for parking in lot C for basketball games)
