RE: 2017-18 Bowls
Man I love this time of year! North Texas was overmatched, but they took advantage of the turnovers and kept it close through the first half. Proud of them. Troy has good athletes and good size.
Way to go Marshall! It was a tough win and a very physical game. Way to pull it out in MWC territory
I'm very disappointed to hear that WKU lost to Georgia State. We can't lose to teams like that. The image of the conference suffers.
Let's go MTSU

Does anybody care accept for the teams in the bowl game? (12-17-2017 08:53 AM)temchugh Wrote: MTSU won. CUSA is 2-2 so far in bottom of the barrel bowl games.

Yeah, the people that bet on them.
And the communities that host them, hoping to draw fans to visit, have fun and spend some money at their local businesses.

I like the small bowls better than the big ones. These G5 schools never get exposure on national television. They play hard. The Marshall game was great.

There's a good reason for that.

RE: 2017-18 Bowls
I dislike the bowl system in general. It's a bunch of meaningless, for-profit exhibition games. What's the point of, for example, an Alamo Bowl between PAC #2 and XII #2 if the result has no effect outside of itself? All of the lower divisions have playoff games with clear purposes. Even a "historic" B1G/PAC Rose Bowl is pointless compared to the playoff game between James Madison and Stony Brook. We only have these games because a handful of them predate NCAA-organized championships. Can you imagine how much of a mess basketball would be if all the early-season sponsored tournaments instead happened in March?

All the games played yesterday were worthy of national television. All but one was exciting. The FCS playoffs are also good football. Give it a try. You're missing out.

I enjoy evenly matched games. It doesn't matter is the teams are P5, G5, DII, or high school. I would rather watch an evenly matched HS game than a NFL rout, even though the HS players are smaller, slower, and less talented. and presumably, less well coached.
Taking it to another sport, I can enjoy a Rookie league game and not enjoy a MLB game.
If all one wants to to watch are the tallest, biggest, fastest, then why would anybody want to watch even Alabama or OU compared to the Dallas Cowboys or Baltimore Ravens?

Alabama plays good football, that's why.
These G5 bowls are like watching the Cleveland Browns play the Cleveland Browns.hence no one cares.
Evenly matched ****** football is still ****** football.

I would still rather what a 28-24 G5 game than a 44-3 P5 game. Even if the team scoring the 3 could beat either G5 team.
Must be a reason why high school football is so popular. It's not because the players are top notch.

RE: 2017-18 Bowls
I’m fine with 28-24. Rather watch a close game than a blowout, but what I don’t enjoy is 55-48, at any level. I don’t enjoy the total lack of defense in the XII or in a lot of CUSA. I grew up on SEC ball when 10-7 was a high scoring game, and I still like watching defense. But nobody really plays much any more. That’s one reason why I think playing good defense would be one way to be contrarian.

When you have guys like David Bailiff and Sean Kugler in charge, it isn't that surprising.
