If you remember back then the NFL schedule was only 14 games and the Liberty Bowl had the prime first Monday night after the NFL season ended. The game was well under freezing at kickoff. The UCLA players were all huddled under their coats and cold weather gear hopping around right before kickoff. Bear Bryant had Alabama take the field in short sleeves. Alabama won 36-6.

I was at that game, too. I sat in the SE corner (where UM student section is now), it was about 30 at kickoff, wind was 15-20 mph form the NORTH. I froze to death. Poured straight bourbon over ice at beginning of game, the ice never melted over the course of the game.

When 'Bama took field, UCLA was already on the field. I laughed as soon as the 'Bama guys came out in shirtsleeves.

My roommate and I used to wear mid riff fish net practice jerseys on the coldest days of the year in Memphis to intimidate the underclassmen. Everything was cotton back then so wearing a big cotton long sleeve jersey under your pads just soaked up sweat and made you cold.
He was especially nuts because if the field was wet he would come out of the practice locker room and jump into a big mud puddle.
Once practice or the game starts you don't get cold anyway. You forget everything including the crowd most of the time.

I'm not worried. I'll be there no matter what. I'm gonna wear my heavy winter neoprene chest high waders (with built in boots) with a blue rain suit over it. Add a hat, and i won't feel a thing. Trust me. I'm one of the diehards though. I'm sure my entire group will come including a couple fans that have had season tickets over 50 years. Gonna be weird not sitting in our normal seats. I just hope the weather is nice, because it would be embarrassing if all the memphis fans chicken out again over the weather and don't show up, and we have more isu fans at the game.

Difference is the investment is a lot higher for the Liberty Bowl tickets. Mine were $85.00 each. Guessing there will be very few no shows.

My wife will probably back out if there is any form of precipitation, but I can always count on my Dad to sit in the rain at a moment's notice for a Tiger game.

USF not excited about going to the Birmingham Bowl:

#USF announces it has sold 1,059 of its 10,000 allotted @Birmingham_Bowl tickets (school sold 1,648 last year).

Not sure about how many tickets were sold to the Frisco Bowl but....I would think it would be near sold out. You can tell this Wednesday at 7PM in ESPN. SMU plays Louisiana Tech.

USF just doesn't have a fan base. It's not their fault, per se. They're just surrounded by power 5 SEC and ACC teams, so it's hard to build a fan base with that. I'm actually surprised that UCF has the fan base they have. They're in the same boat as USF, but can actually produce fans.

And Tampa's a pro town. With lots of transplants with no ties to the school. Hard to break through the media with the Buccaneers there.

I think most people will be there. Still hoping for no precip but I guess a real live snow game could be fun.

Yep, a week ago it was supposed to be 62 and sunny this past Monday. It ended up being 48 and overcast.
