RE: Are the Band and Cheerleaders going to be at the Bowl game?
Okay, this literally made me snort with laughter.
THAT BEING SAID
My brother is in the band, and from what I have been told, in the spirit of equality, they are treating the UofM band and cheerleaders as they would for any bowl game. So they are putting the band up in the Sheraton downtown, and giving them their allotted stipend money.
The basketball game on the 28th will be quite a sight, as the entire marching band will be marching from the hotel to the forum and will be playing at the game. So if you're planning on going to a game...that might be one that would be pretty fun.
Now, I don't know if any of this will change, but that's what I've been told thus far.

That's VERY cool. I joke around about the band being mistreated, and sometimes they are, but this is very nice of the admin. and they deserve kudos.

Well, it's one of those things that it's like...the band is really a big part of the athletic events. Hell, if it wasn't for the band right now, there would be no one cheering in the stands half the time.
But when it comes to saving money and cutting corners...the band is the first corner cut most of the time. Trust me. After four years in the MSS and four years of my brother being there, I've seen my fair share of ups and downs.
But they are getting to stay in a nice hotel this time around. So, you're right. Admin does deserve Kudos for that.
RE: Are the Band and Cheerleaders going to be at the Bowl game?
I was in the MSS 1973-1976 back when there was no TV money. Some how the university found a way to send us to Knoxville 2x, Auburn, New York, Phoenix, Houston, Tulsa, Jackson, Tupelo, New Orleans, Nashville and Tallahassee 2x. If Memphis wants to go to that next level in football it’s has to take the marching band with them to that level. #CLIMB. We can do this.
RE: Are the Band and Cheerleaders going to be at the Bowl game?
The band gets very little time to play anything. What with the PA announcer who goes on and on and on, and the endless sponsorships. And the obligatory military personnel salute. And the idiotic video car races and the even more idiotic video shell game. IMO, the band should be allowed to play non stop between breaks and the drum corps should be going the whole freaking game. If I wanted to see all the other crap I can go to an NBA game.

To be fair, "Old Man Mary" counts as two songs. ;-)
If we are really gonna go there, I'll introduce some fact. As I said in the last thread about this, they play at least 17 different songs in the stands.

When I cheered at Indiana, we traveled in 2013 for the first and second rounds and Sweet Sixteen. Best part of the trip is checking into the hotel, cracking open the mini bar, and getting your per Diem. The AD was real happy with the bill.

It was all tongue-in-cheek from me. I have no problem at all with the band. :-)
