People still care about Tiger basketball and the casual fan will follow a winner . We may never see the return of the attendance level during our relevant period due to factors like increased competition, watching from home, etc, but we can do much better than now upon hire of the right coach.

We've had season tickets since the Forum opened, but I refused to buy them this year (if it was up to the wife, we'd still have them). Watched the game on ch 30 the other night and told her how much more relaxing it was to sit in my chair, in my PJs, drinking a beer that didn't cost $8, and I could change the channel to other things during commercials, etc. No hassles of driving 30+ minutes each way downtown, no paying to park, no bums asking for $$ in my living room. Maybe if the team was D1 level and the games were exciting, I might feel different but for now, I am thinking of spending some of my normal season ticket money on a 65" tv.

There are apparently many other people taking the same route for all sporting events (not just Memphis). There has to value added to attending an event live compared to home to justify the cost and inconvenience difference and Tubby fails to deliver it.

I plan to drive to Memphis to watch the Saturday game in person only out of duty. Rationally, it is not a wise use of my time and money.

My question to the folks in attendance: was that turnstile count or was that the dreaded 'tickets sold' figure?

If it was the latter, holy cow, that is really, really bad and suggests that there might've been 2,000 people there (around 1/10th full). I left Memphis in 2011 and we were still drawing well. But the last 3 years are really taking their toll on the program and can't imagine how it is going to get better anytime in the next 2 years if Tubby is still around. The program seems pretty well dead.

As the old saying goes: Be careful what you ask for you may get it.

The Grizzlies will have a lot of extra money at the end of this season. We won't come near the minimum needed for payout.

There is no excitement as to what is coming next year because there’s only one player coming so far, and he’s probably a project. The administration will be forced to make a change. They can’t continue to kick the broken can down the road.

The MSC would look empty with the crowds the Tigers have been having this year.

Samford was the ONLY home game which has been shown on TV. EVERY other home game has been online viewing only. We are not seeing 12,000-14,000 sitting in front of their computers instead of going to the forum.

They only open half the concession stands anyways. Sad.

Overall college basketball is definitely changing. You have a dynamic now where it seems the top talent are going to fewer schools, consolidating the quality of the game experience. It hurts the larger college basketball ecosystem. I believe Memphis is in a unique position to have excellent local talent, but you have to have the right coach to close and manage to that.

RE: Tiger BB attendance
Last year's per game attendance of 9,622 was the lowest since the 1981-82 season.

This year, attendance is currently 5,904 a game.

That would put our attendance as the SECOND LOWEST EVER since records have been kept (going back to the 1964-65 season).

Five lowest seasons in attendance:

1) 1969-70: 5,205
2) 2017-18: 5,904 (5 games)
3) 1968-69: 6,112
4) 1965-66: 6,227
5) 1964-65: 7,173

We'll get a bump from the Cinci and Wichita games that may be enough to put us at 4th in history.

Wait till we lose 5 of 6 going into the USF game on March 1st. Might be less than a thousand at that game.

Heck, they drop b2b vs. Albany and Louisville and the Dec 20th game vs. mighty Siena might get 1,000.

I'll say this. I went to the game 2 saturdays ago. Can't remember the opponent, but it was the one where you got $10 off club level with your FB ticket. There were a LOT of fans in the terrace level, and they can't come down from there because security checks your ticket before they let you in any section. The camera never shows the terrace level. But that's where all the cheap seats are.

The key is to sneak down at the half.

With hands full of concessions.....BEER

Wow. That is close to a 40% reduction in attendance. In. One. Year. Granted the conference schedule is about to start and that should increase that figure, but not by more than 15%, which would put the average around 6800 or so. By the end of the year, we are looking at a 30% decline in attendance.

If that doesn't catch the attention of Bowen, nothing will.

I could be wrong, but Tubby seems like the perfect hire to let BB die a slow death: there won't be any scandals, Tubby is 'likable' enough, the schedule is easy enough for us to be around .500 and - outside of the horrid decline in attendance - there isn't enough of a calamity to force a change.

And, then the focus is totally on Tiger FB.

The beginning of the true end was that 30+ point shellacking from UCF last year in the conference tournament. Fans don't forget stuff like that. To UCF.
