Looks like Patterson and two other OM players will be in Ann Arbor this weekend.

Faced with major backlash from players and parents seeking to transfer but facing school-enforced restrictions, Ole Miss reversed course and lifted limitations on football transfers this afternoon. Story to come.

Hmmmm ... maybe Austin Nichols dad's attorney did get involved.

Why Ole Miss thought they could do this is a mystery? Ole Miss cheated for years, they cheated recruiting at least some of the players who want to transfer without restrictions. Does Ole Miss want these players threatening to tell the NCAA about their recruiting experience with a coaching staff full of show-causes?

Ole Miss will start a rumor that these guys all had red flags in their background.

i think the Tigers should be able to postpone that game a few years. A game with the Bears will only hurt our chances to make the CFP. There is still time to find a good opponent.

LOL a G5 school will NEVER make the playoffs. So do not even worry about how a single game will effect our chances.

Lots of nevers been happening lately

Just one big D lineman with 3 years of eligibility left and one athletic DB and I would be very happy.

After they tried to actively recruit Avery to transfer a couple of years ago, would that not be poetic justice?

Didn't someone here say Patterson was staying with Luke - that was a condition of giving Luke the full-time job? Then the next day Patterson asked for permission to have discussions with other schools. Lol - our insiders.

“Keep the kids first. When they recruited Van, Ole Miss came into our house and broke bread with us. They said, ‘We’re going to be an extension of his parents and take care of him and do things right.’ That was a bunch of bull—-. We expected them to be about the truth and honesty, and we got the exact opposite.”

Damn.

Marion Street said Freeze referenced his faith, said he was a man of his word and reiterated that this would not significantly affect her son. He mentioned the possibility of the Rebels losing a couple of scholarships, she said, but that was “the worst thing that could happen.”

Some of y'all wanted to hire this schmuck.

What? A coach says what a player wants to hear?

Omigod.

I can see it now (in a kid's living room)...

Tubby, "Okay Tyler. You just shoot too much. I will expect you to run the point. To manage the offense, and to only shoot as a last resort. This is Tubbyball, not that crazy AAU stuff you kids all play on the Atari nowadays."

Or:

Tubby: "I expect us to be one of the highest scoring team in the American this year..."

As usual, you missed the point. This was a guy that promoted his faith as his bastion of goodness and then it comes out he's throwing hundreds on Becky and Tiffany during recruiting visits. The mere fact that he referenced his faith in this instance, to get a kid to promise to come, even though he knew a couple lost scholarships were the least of his worries is gross. But hey, your example with Tubby really made a lot of sense.

Bottom line, I guess, is that I'm not going to pretend to be shocked and appalled when coaches make less that genuine promises on the recruiting trail.

However those with more than 1 year of eligibility left still have to sit out a year. They can now accept financial assistance from the school while sitting out.

For some reason this is hard for some to comprehend. Had a guy argue for over an hour last night that the release means that Patterson could transfer and play immediately. Then he started going off on how the NCAA has never turned down a hardship transfer as if your current team being put on probation qualifies as a hardship.

He finally shut up when i showed him article about NCAA eliminating hardship transfers and that even before they did, they turned down almost 47% of applications.

The NCAA ruled based on bylaw 14.8.2 which states a player may transfer without sitting out if the post season ban is in effect for the remainder of their eligibility.

Ole Miss was given a 2 year post season ban which included their self imposed ban this year. So they are banned for 2017 and 2018. The Senior class of 2018 is the only one who will have used up their eligibility during the post season ban. So those players are the only ones eligible to transfer without sitting out a year.

So anyone who has eligibility remaining after the 2018 season CANNOT transfer without sitting out.
