RE: LSU: 30 point loss and a loss to Troy. Ranked ahead of Memphis.
Yesterday on Twitter Wolken said Memphis is better than LSU. Naturally that got some LSU fans riled up. I got into a back and forth with one guy, and naturally I had to defend Memphis.

That said, I'll give my honest opinion here. I think it would be an interesting match up if they played. We have an explosive offense, but they have a top 20 defense. We played one top 20 defense this season, and it didn't go well for us. So the LSU fans of the world will say that Memphis can score points against ho hum or crap defenses, but LSU would keep them in check.

On the other hand, LSU does't exactly have an explosive offfense. They are big and physical and have a great RB (as they usually do). Our defense kind of stinks and has a tendency to make average offenses look great. We'd have to be able to slow them down some. If we could, then I think it would be a down to the wire game.

I think the spread would be 6 or 7 in favor of LSU, but it's a winnable game. LSU isn't Alabama. They lost at home to Troy (albeit a pretty good Troy team). It's a game I'd love to see. I think we'd be prepared. My prediction: Memphis 42 LSU 41

That's possible but beside the point.

Silvers would start at any school in Tennessee ( other than us) Mississippi, ot Arkansas. Chunn is a beast. Jamarius Henderson (remember him) is playing good ball. Niel Brown is a helluva coach and I hope he is on our short list.

Football much?

They also lost to South Alabama. So there's that.

It really isn't rocket science. I'd say we'd be somewhere around a 9 point underdog if we played them on a neutral field. With that being said, I think we would have a chance of winning.

No way we'd be a 9-point dog to LSU.

LSU with 3 loses and should not be ranked above us, end of story. Now throw in a 30 point loss. 30 points! (now really the end of the story). Now throw in the loss to Troy. Surely losing to an unranked team should hurt there cred? BTW- perhaps Troy should be ranked and not LSU

Let’s focus on aspects of the team and not fellow Tiger fans.

Hate them or not, the overall caliber of teams in the SEC is pretty good, so winning any games there outside of a Vandy etc...now and then is still good.

Good enough to merit a three loss team being over us this year? Maybe not, but using that logic of knocking big conference teams, our win over UCLA would get discounted too.

If we replaced three of our conference wins with three SEC games and going 2-1 in those three, we would likely be ranked higher.

I was at the Auburn game and we not only were abandoned by our coach, our QB was dialing it in so he would not be injured and jeopardize the draft. Lynch looked like he wanted to get back on the bus the entire game.

It's not sad. It's not a low opinion of the school per se. He just believes LSU would be bigger, stronger, faster and deeper than Memphis. A LOT of people would agree with that, especially those being objective.

Also, as Mimi pointed out, WKU lost their coach last year and absolutely teabagged Memphis. I'm talking serious teabagging. I think they scored TD's on every possession in the first half. In fact, I just looked out the window and they scored again.

I think Memphis can beat LSU. LSU is not Alabama. But I do think it would require a bit of an upset. LSU would likely be favored by a touchdown on a neutral field.

We'd all be rooting for Memphis. Some of us would just have different expectations of what we think would happen.

IMO, Memphis has to prove they can score on a Top 20 defense and, more importantly, the defense has to prove it can slow down a potent offense. Outside of the Navy game, I still don't trust the defense to hold a team like LSU under 35 points. It's asking a lot of the offense if the expectation is that you'll give up 40 plus against a good team.

According to Sagarin and ESPN, LSU would be favored around 5 points. That is less than a td.

A lot comes back to what you think the rankings are. Should they be ranking teams according to whose playing best at that moment? Should they be ranking according to who they think would win (talent, etc.)? Should they be ranking according to what you've accomplished over the course of the whole season?

I think it's the latter. So no way Miss State or LSU should be ranked ahead of us or UCF.

It's a moo point after tonight's game, though. Miss State took a beatdown at the hands of the hapless Rebearsharks. That should take care of the silliness that had them in the top 15.
