Machine Gun Kelly was a legend here also. Maybe we should honor him while we are at it.

The Memphis job did as much if not more for X than he did for the program. He was out of coaching, had some baggage and was looking for way of breaking back into coaching.

If you want to honor a lying two face SOB then feels free to do it on your own.

Didn't we try this a few years ago and it was shot down?

Yes. People got upset and had their jimmies ruffled that we would dare want to honor the best coach and the best era in our program's history

RE: It’s time to honor Coach Cal
I am older than most, but I am getting really annoyed at the local media who claim Cal put Memphis basketball on the map. I think Bartow and Kirk took us to as many final fours as Cal and not sure we ever honored them.

If I am not mistaken even Coach Finch had a really good record, so why is Cal so bestowed as the King of Memphis basketball. We were relevant before and we will be again (maybe with a different coach than we have now!).

Cal had a great run, maybe more media exposure than other Coaches, not sure. But the way he left taking our recruits that the U of M paid to recruit is a sore spot for me.

So, maybe not!

Eff Cal. He can fall down a flight of stairs as far as I'm concerned. He got us put on probation, stole our recruiting class, and got a huge raises. There's a special place in hell for him.

Agree. Have to admit I didn't think this way when he left the way he did. In hindsight, considering that he took our run down program (similar to how it now is) and built it to a national power house, I now have nothing but good things to say about him and realize how fortunate we were that he came along when he did. We need another Calipari or Kirk - both were good spokesmen for and promoters of our program. Kirk was also a very good game coach and brought our program to national prominence mostly with Memphis players. The talent is still available locally - just need a coach that can attract and coach them.

I would say probably near it - most don't see an improved team in Tubby's second year. By next year, if there is not a definite improvement, rock bottom syndrome will definitely be infecting the fan base.

He should be honored at some point. Might be a tad too early at the present time. I’d say wait until he retires.

RE: It’s time to honor Coach Cal
You really can't blame anyone for hating Cal. He did great things for the program and made us a national brand but he also left a stick of dynamite in the program on his way out. I personally don't hate the guy. I think it's more important to honor Coach Fuente though.

RE: It’s time to honor Coach Cal
Cal is disliked by most people, not just Memphis fans. Despite his success, he's not revered the way guys like Coach K and Tom Izzo are.

I never liked Cal, even when he was at Memphis. Sure the winning was fun, but he still wasn't likeable.

I have no interest in seeing him honored at Memphis, despite what was accomplished from 2005-2008.

I had some of the best times in my life following Tiger basketball when he was here - me and my whole family - but I still can't stand how he wasn't held accountable.
