Yea, and your athletic department laid a giant "turd" ,as you say, marketing the program afterward. You guys certainly have the designation of what I see as an epic failure to continue momentum with fans.
Ah, it was absolutely glorious playing in the second best bowl game of them all (behind the Rose). Go focus on WMU and renting a car to drive to Mobile.

True. It's like they all went on vacation for months after the Orange Bowl.
What were they supposed to do? Football is a very "what have you done lately" business. The Orange Bowl put us on the map, but it's fading away in the rear view mirror. Winning against the P5 teams gives credibility. Credit to the staff for the 2018 OOC schedule. It may be tough, but it gives more gravitas than opening up against Presbyterian.
Had we done back-to-back BCS Bowls we would have taken a major step forward, but we wet the bed in the MACC against BGSU.
Oh, maybe some marketing to keep the sizzle going and increase season ticket sales? Immediately after the OB was the time to market like crazy. There was nothing. Not a peep.
Probably had a lot to do with Compher's job hunt.

Are you serious? There is no chance any other MAC fan base focuses so much on another team then NIU fans of Toledo. I have never heard of one NIU fan ever having a bad experience at our games or with our fans but the naming calling and hating of Toledo has gone on for years. You just dont see Toledo putting up NIU threads on our board. Its the strangest thing I have ever seen. Yes, we give BGSU a hard time, but thats about it.
A few years back in DeKalb, after a Huskie win, a Toledo fan, maybe you, who knows, actually shoved my son who was maybe 9 at the time.
So, um, you guys are pretty classless in my book.

The OB wasn't going to change NIUs stature. The Sugar Bowl isn't changing WMUs stature. Maybe, and a big maybe, had NIU reached the Sugar Bowl in 2013 there may have been a tiny ripple effect. But really, there's been a few one and done's from G5s and it's done nothing. It takes more than wins to change a culture. It takes pride in the university from its alumnus and locals. Schools like Boise had that prior to winning.

If had been at the game I would have grabbed anybody that put their hand on a child and held them until an Officer would take over. I personally apologize for that person's behavior.

It's pointless to characterize any fan base outside of the eagles or raiders. Each persons perception is based on a limited exposure to a small percentage of a teams fans. Also, fans are nicer when their team is kicking your teams butt. And conversely the opposite.

As a fan, I'm either a guest in somebody else's house and behave myself or they're a guest in mine and treated accordingly.

It's a damn shame what happened to Diehard's son. I can understand why he feels the way he does about Toledo. Kinda the same way I feel about Iowa fans after the way they behaved at Soldier Field in 2007.
I was at the Glass Bowl when NIU played there in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. NIU won four of those games and Toledo won three. I have to say, no matter the outcome, I never had a bad experience with Rocket fans. Not a single one.

If that happened that is a shame, but your details are very vague. I was not at that game so that accusation is false. That being said, how is it possible that you don't even know who this is, & say maybe it was me, who knows? How did you not have that person arrested, maybe because it didn't happen? Should it have not been your job as a parent to make sure you knew who it was? You don't remember how old your son was when it happened, maybe 9 at the time? A few years back, you don't remember the year? All of that leads me to believe it didn't happen!

Why would we care about NIU? We control our own destiny.... NIU is the team that needs help... And YOU started a thread about Toledo, not the other way around...

Doubt if we'll ever again see another G5 team make it to a NY6 Bowl after losing to a 4-8 team.

Good and bad is a good way to sum it up. My wife and I met some very classy Wisconsin fans at that same Soldier Field game that you have cited. tOSU and and Purdue fans have been welcoming to us in road victories and losses. We have had terrible experiences with drunken Iowa fans.
I am sure there are some gracious and terrible NIU fans as well.
