Theoretically Only...
In theory (only) I can see where Coach Smith is coming from with his recruiting. What other situation is it expected that a person has to call repeatedly, day after day, for weeks / months just to let another person know that he is interested in them? In dating circles, that would be stalking. In business it would be harassment. Maybe Coach Smith thinks that a lengthy conversation with a teenager and his parents is enough to let them know where he stands. Maybe he believes that once he has told the the teenager and his family that he wants the kid to play for him, then its up to the teenager and his family to decide.
I know that in reality that's not how the game is played, but maybe the whole concept of recruiting borders on ridiculous. The idea that 40-50-60-70 year old men need to call multiple teenagers every day to try and convince them to pick their school to attend is an odd basis for a multi-million dollar industry.

Somebody should’ve figured that out before we hired the guy and said to the rest of the committee
“This guy is living in the past. Forget him”

RE: Theoretically Only...
Too late now to do anything, we got played. We made the same mistake we made with Josh and have now jumped from the frying pan into the fire.
We could end up like other ex-good basketball schools and fall off the map. Then people will be asking…
Who?

The amount he is getting paid it isn't that ridiculous to pick up a phone every now and again, most people don't put them down anyways especially the younger crowd.

You're right. Tubby should not be our coach.

You know you could apply that exact same logic to almost everything...
The idea that 40-50-60-70 year old men need to spend hours every day teaching multiple teenagers how to play basketball..... I mean, recruiting is a major part of his job. If he doesn't want to recruit he should coach pros or peewees. Even highschool requires recruiting.

You evolve or die. Today on 92.9, reports were Harris’ dad saying they haven’t heard much from Tubby. If one coach is calling multiple times a week selling you how awesome you/your son is and another checks in from time to time...who are you signing with?

3 million reasons he knew this before he signed up for it. Fraud?

I agree with this concept. I don't want a bunch of Prima Donna, self-centered, arrogant little babies who have to be coddled and want smoke constantly blown up their axxes. Lawsons anyone?
However, as times have changed, he should probably call once a week or so just to check in. When joshie got the job and it was reported how he constantly called recruits, sometimes at 1:30 in the morning, I thought it would probably turn a lot of them off, having that doofus call them constantly, partly because he was a doofus but mostly because of the creepily / overly needy excessive attention.

We never hear stuff like this about our recruiting guys.
relationship quote from Lomax:
http://www.gatorcountry.com/florida-gato...asketball/
“I love Florida they are a great program and are one big family,” he said. “Coach White and coach [Jordan] Mincy are my main recruiters. They mainly keep telling me that I’m a great kid and that I would be a great fit to the Florida program. I would fit great with Florida. They play my type of style. I pride myself on defense and so does Florida. Florida is just a great program and has a great atmosphere.”

Then what happened?
They dumped him.

Pastner put Tiger BB on life support; tubby pulled the plug.
Except for his head case sons, who did Papa Lawson bring in? If the kids he recruited were as entitled as his family seems to feel, no thanks. Memphis never would have gotten rid of the cancers.

The problem with this is, that is how recruiting is done. When every other coach recruiting them is calling them regularly, texting them, talking to their parents, coaches, etc. They expect that. So when one coach doesn't, they dismiss that coach.
It is clear that Tubby's recruiting style is not effective.

The Lawsons quit on the team during the the late season, and as a result several more guys quit too when the going got tough. To hell with the Lawsons.
Nothing against you snowtiger...just not fond of how they left us hanging.
