I'm a U of M grad, Tiger fan, and local meteorologist, operating MemphisWeather.net. Here's my latest just-the-facts forecast for Saturday's game. A few hit-and-miss showers are possible on Tiger Lane Saturday morning with temps in the 60s. Expect southwest wind gusting to 25-30 mph however. (Tie down those tents!) A fast-moving cold front will move through during the game (between about noon-2pm) with a quick-hitting line of rain showers and a possible t'storm. The main line of rain won't last long, then it's over for the afternoon. Wind shifts to the northwest and remains gusty throughout the afternoon at maybe 25-35 mph. Temps will fall to the mid 50s by the end of the game. Total rainfall around 0.25".
In other words, it will not be an all-day rain-out, severe weather is not expected outside of those strong wind gusts, and the temps won't be bad. Grab your poncho and get out and support the Tigers! And tell your friends that an 60-80% chance of rain just means it WILL rain at some point, but not all day! :-) I'll post additional updates the next couple days (and beyond!) on MemphisWeather.net on Facebook and @memphisweather1 on Twitter. Go Tigers!"

This deserves its own thread. Post it everywhere. We need 35k.

If News Channel 3’s Weather Team was really on our side, they could at least lie and say it ain’t gonna rain til after the game.

Glad I'm coaching at 945 and 5 tomorrow so I can watch the boys wrap up the division.

RE: 50K THISSaturday - WEATHER SUX
From a reliable source:

SATURDAY
Windy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy. Highs around 70. Temperature falling into the mid 50s in the afternoon. Southwest winds around 25 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Wind gusts to near 35 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent
DISCUSSION...

Surface high pressure over the Mid South this morning will move
east today with return southerly flow advecting greater amounts of
moisture northward into the region. Weak isentropic ascent
combined with the increased moisture levels may support a few
showers mainly across northwest portions of the forecast area
today. Much warmer temperatures can also be expected with highs
reaching the upper 60s north to lower 70s south.

An upper level shortwave trough over the Pacific Northwest early
this morning will dive southeastward through Saturday. Surface low
pressure should develop in the lee of the Rockies late this
afternoon in response to this upper level feature. The low
pressure should deepen and move east then northeast into the
Great Lakes region on Saturday. Strengthening surface pressure
gradient by late this evening should allow southerly winds to
strengthen across the area after midnight. The strong southerly
flow will keep low temperatures well above normal in the lower to
middle 60s. Strong and gusty southwest winds will continue into
Saturday as a strengthening low level jet overspreads the Mid
South ahead of an approaching cold front. Wind speeds may exceed
advisory criteria and a wind advisory may be needed for late
tonight into Saturday.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop late tonight
ahead of the front across locations north of Interstate 40.
Coverage should increase by late morning into the afternoon
Saturday just ahead of the frontal boundary. Strong deep layer
shear but marginal instability associated with the positively
tilted mid level shortwave may support a few stronger storms along
the front with enhanced wind gusts. At this point, due to lack of
stronger instability, not expecting much in the way of severe
thunderstorm development. The front should clear northeast
Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel by late morning, areas adjacent
to the Mississippi River by early afternoon, and the remainder of
west Tennessee and northeast Mississippi by Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will likely warm into the upper 60s to lower 70s
ahead of the front, but fall sharply behind the frontal passage
with quickly falling temperatures across many locations by
Saturday afternoon.

It should be reported by the local news stations like this. Hell to listen to them you'd think we're gonna be in for an all day thunderstorm situation. I talked to a buddy of mine last night (Tiger fan with 4 season tix). He said there's no way he's going to the game per what he saw on a local news stations weather forecast. This is the kind of thing that people make their decisions on not to go to the game. Oh well, all I know is, me and my crew will all be there.

I agree. People see 90% and think it's going to be a torrential downpour. It'll be passing showers with a high of 65. Sounds like a blast to me.

The question is not if it is going to rain, it should be "where " it is going to rain the predicted 30% to 80% chance of rain? Could rain like cats and dogs in Far East Mempho, G-town, C-ville and miss the LBS entirely.

Or not!

Exclamation RE: 50K THISSaturday - WEATHER SUX
02-13-banana Come on people, don't be a bunch of wusp's. Easy for me to say as I sit down here in sunny Florida. I remember sitting through all kinds of wet, cold, hot, yucky weather when I had my season tickets for years. One game in particular I took my then young grandson to the game and it rained cats and dogs and it so happened that he wanted a hot dog. I still have the memories of watching him eat that rain soaked hot dog with mustard, etc. on it and he was loving it. We had a great time and still discuss it today as he has two boys of his own now.

You make a good point. One of my favorite memories is attending and “braving” the elements with my brother at the Tiger/UT Martin game.

I was there. I’d say all things considered, it was a pretty good crowd. We left after the delay, so I don’t know what it was like when play resumed.

After the delay I would say that about half the crowd came back. It was not that bad, and we got to see the trophy presentation!
