The thread is NTR, much to my relief.

I'm fact Parrish said that Ole Miss has *already* been in contact with him regarding this.

My cup overflows with good news. 03-wink

I hope Crawford only gets a slap on the wrist (if alleged acts occurred). He grew up in a tough situation.

If the NCAA wants to use this as a means to open an investigation then it means a lot for Memphis. On the surface, the Markell Crawford benefits were negligible, but we also had an assistant coach who had a bad break up with the new staff. Who knows what behind the scenes arrangements weren't honored and who knows if Kansas did. Does this open the door? I don't know, but I do know this could mean more than "nothing".

This ^.

Neither us or GT want the NCAA lurking around our programs.

Sounds like Bell had not evidence for this only his allegation. The other stuff with the GT players - yes, he could document that but not Crawford. BTW - if Bell wants to help Crawford why this allegation that could hurt him --- unless he's just do blinded by his need to get Pastner

I think when it's small amounts of money like this, the NCAA typically suspends the player in question for 10% of the regular season, or, 3 games. I remember we had someone get a free rental car a few years back (maybe Antonio Burks?), and he was suspended the first 3 games of the season for that.

I think suspensions will be the only impact of this situation, and it will only affect Crawford this year, as well as the Tech players. The NCAA could make us vacate our wins last season (since that's when the violation allegedly occurred), but I think even they know that would be a waste of time since we didn't go to any postseason play. So I think we get no problems from this.

I don't think we have been doing the high-level shady stuff that other schools have been doing in the past decade. But I agree that it's not impossible. There's never a time you want the NCAA looking closely at your athletic programs.

I hope you're right, but Josh recruited at a pretty high level, and as we're finding out through the FBI probe, high level recruits usually come with a price tag. The NCAA will not make an example out of some programs, but they will gladly do so out of Memphis and Louisville.

Ron Bell was around the program extensively at Memphis, had an almost creepy obsession with Pastner.

He was in Atlanta and Memphis at Pastner's request? Why?

I'm sure the people at Tech eventually told Josh to distance himself from Bell, but like a jilted psychotic ex-girlfriend of a married man, the breakup was, obviously, not as easy as it seemed. There is dirt and Bell exposed it. Problem for Josh, is everything Bell is saying appears to be backed up with phone records. I'm sure the NCAA will take it from here.

He can't document where the cash came from, the phone calls are irrelevant, Josh admits that they were friends and spoke often.

Remember these 2 words, y'all: "Strict Liability ". NCAA can make anything out of this they decide to. Totally capricious.

Asked if he ever provided impermissible benefits to a Memphis player, Bell said he sent "about $300" in gift cards to Markel Crawford "for groceries." "Markel has had a rough life," Bell said.

Really, a pair of Nikes? We have a contract with Nike, the players get free Nike shoes already. I know they do not get to just go in and pick any and all style of shoes, but it is not like Markel was having to walk around shoe-less because he could not afford a pair of Nikes...

Makes no sense for Markel to verify. He would be self incriminating under a circumstance that is sure to lead to a multi game suspension for himself...

No. Bell had contact with Markel during Pastner's tenure.

He probably heard that Markel was unhappy here last season and reached out.

The 247 twitter has an exchange between Bell and them that makes it's seem like he thought he could get Markel to GT.

According to the quoted article above the shoes were sent during Tubbys tenure. Bell ain't Tubbys guy - true? If this was an effort to get Crawford over to GT how is this about Memphis? The staff here would have no idea regarding this if these are the alleged facts.
