Some of them want to style. The Clintonites.
Some want to change and go hard left. The Sanderistas.
A few want to change and move to the middle. The endangered species.

That pick em up truck ad was Northams “Deplorable’” moment.
He’s gonna lose all but the cesspool that is NoVa., some of Hampton Rds, and perhaps Richmond proper.
Otherwise he’s gonna get swamped.
I could see Gillespie taking this by low double digits. A smack down...

RE: Democrats search for an identity
These things run in cycles, but it seems (and one would hope) that the further left and more the Democrats push identity politics, the greater the numbers of Americans there will be that reject that path.
My biggest fear is the non-producers become so large that they continually take more and more from the producers via the ballot box.
There will always be a politician willing to redistribute money from one person to another for a vote and that is largely what the Democrats are running on today...

That's my concern about exempting too many people from the income tax. At some point its just other people's money. It could almost become taxation without representation.

RE: Democrats search for an identity
The clintons have destroyed the the Democratic party. They are not Progressives that campaign on issues that are important like Health Care, jobs, pay raises and so forth. Bernie brought that to the forefront while Hillary wanted to divide the Democratic party by race and sexism. We could do it all without leaving the most important issues like the economy and all that. We need to go back to the way that worked for the Democrats. Do the things what FDR did to bring us out of the Great Depression. What he did worked. Sadly, none of the clinton supporters cared. Bernie tried to bring us back in that direction of FDR. Republicans called FRD a Socialist, but he is revered as one of our best Presidents of all time except for the Internment Camps for the Japanese Americans.

no, fdr is not revered as one of our best presidents by students of history. maybe by indoctrinated numb skulls but not by learned people.

If you want people to vote and act like it's their money.......it has to be some of their money. I would be in favor of a larger percentage getting taxed-even if they get almost all of it back at tax filing time so they can see their paycheck change, at least minimally, when the government decides it wants to spend more.
People with no skin in the game will ALWAYS vote for more entitlements........because they never pay for any of it.
It's too easy to be in favor of something that has no effect on you. Human nature.

RE: Democrats search for an identity
The only reason FDR is considered a great president is that he was in charge at the start of WWII. His programs did not make money, it only took away money and like everything that is like that it will eventually run out. The industrial world came alive with powerful results because weaponry was needed and the manpower got "hired" into the war effort, both making the tools of war and fighting the war. You can not survive by only taking money because it doesn't grow on trees contrary to how the Sanderistas and many Demons think. Just ask any socialist/communist country. Even Viet Nam and China realized that.

IMO they don't need a new "identity", they just need to drop the facade and show their true colors.

Honestly, I think that's an insult to communists.
1 they invented it and believed in it.
2. They actually understood what communism meant
I don't thing democrats are original, clever or particularly insightful.
I remain hopeful for them

RE: Democrats search for an identity
http://freebeacon.com/columns/class-real...democrats/
Democrats and the "sanity" bubble. Captures it perfectly.
"...The sanity bubble! What a perfect label for the environs of the self-satisfied and righteous, the elegantly appointed ballrooms where the high and mighty, silhouetted in magenta up-lighting, nod reverentially at clichés mouthed by the latest faddish "thought leader," before tucking into, say, a caprese salad with arugula and pesto, followed by spinach and gorgonzola tortelloni with caramelized pears and bleu cheese cream. Within the sanity bubble life is pleasant, comfortable, and agreeable, its niceties and pleasures and fixed ideas interrupted by only the maelstrom of political and economic change outside.
I live in the bubble. Always have, even if I have come to disagree with what my college professors would call the "hegemonic discourse" of postmodern liberalism, and to gag at the vanity and solipsism of many of my fellow residents. But never, especially after the 2016 campaign, would I mistake the confines of the bubble for the whole of reality. That is the mistake Hillary Clinton made when she decided that she could win the presidency without the support of a white working class mangled by economic stagnation, family breakdown, and drug addiction. And it is the same mistake the Democrats at the Obama Foundation and on Capitol Hill are making now, in real time, as they wrap themselves in the illusions that growing minority populations will carry them ineluctably to power, and that identity politics is somehow an electoral winner...."

FDR was President for 6 years before World War 2 ended the Great Depression.
Luckily for him there were no term limits at the time.
