Probably wouldn't do much. Anderson's teams have a really bad habbit of taking about 5-6 games to gel before really getting going. By playing all our nonconference games the first 4 weeks of the season, it leads to us always struggling in those games. Likewise, if you go through our league schedule under Anderson, we've notoriously struggled in our first league game of the year before the results really change.

I'd be really curious to see how we would do if we scheduled an FBS OOC game for October or November, and a league game in September. My theory is that we might lose the league game but win the OOC Game.

Think the problem was been Anderson never want to sacrifice a year or two--not to mention the resulting extensions, to bite the bullet, and just load up on his players.

This patch, patch approach was heavy on transfers (all types) many last minute transfers.

This along with Anderson's approach to OOC games(really focused on his team and not the opponent) and the fact you guys play pretty good teams in the OOC are probably the reasons for the slow starts.

That should be behind you going forward( not saying you are going to beat Alabama next year), despite the fact you again have a large number of transfers sitting out this year that could end up impacting the 2-deep. You just will not have to rely on them at the start, and they can join the fray at their own pace(several are doing that this year on the defense).

As far as getting away from these transfers, don't think it is gong to happen because you now have a national reputation for being place where these players can be successful. In all your games on TV this is brought up and they make a point of mentioning the "previous school" , and that does not go unnoticed by players around the country looking for a new home for whatever reason.

How big of an impact does recruiting jucos and transfers play into this gel time? Do you think he'll change that approach at some point?

I believe it is the main factor for the required "gel time."

The streak of one and done coaches left major holes in our roster. He has had to go the juco/transfer route to address these issues and keep the team competitive. As the roster issues are fixed, I believe you will see a more traditional recruiting approach.

Of course, if a 4 star player wants to transfer from the University of Alabama, we're going to find a spot for him.

Like asuwon said it is probably the biggest factor.

Anderson said after last year that they would be able to get away from "funky" recruiting after another class or so, and that would help their recruiting class rankings, but I don't see them getting away from it totally because they are now known for it.

They have gone from being known nationally as "One-and-Done U" , to "Transfer U".

You can't walk away from players that give you an advantage, especially when they have been huge factors in your success, and you don't have to be thrown into the fire.

There are some outstanding transfers on their roster this year that they have had the luxury of bringing along slowly, who could critical as they head down the stretch.

You can win championships with players like Kendrick Edwards II, Christian Howard, Josh Curry, Jeff Gibson, or Marvis Brown III -- when they are ready. The last two games the commentators have made note of their depth, and it's quality.
