I really wonder what kind of penalty (aside from a slap on the wrist) is actually done to the officiating crew. It seems like they should be impacted in a way so it doesn't happen again. In both cases they didn't follow the rule book.
As bad as the CAA crews have been, they don't compare to how bad the lesser conferences have it. I remember the SoCon was notorious for having terrible officiating crews.

Well, on the flip side of the coin it would have IMHOP been just as big of a crock if they had marked off 30 yards against SBU for "discovering" a 15 yd penalty that no flag was thrown on the field for, thereby giving W&M a chip shot FG for the win. I don't remember before this year the review booth being able to through review to discover penalties that no flag was thrown on the field for. What a crock.

Yeah, that would be complete BS. If a penalty is missed, that's on the officials. Also, most penalties aren't reviewable (false starts, offsides, holding, pass int., etc) so many calls cannot be undone.
It's pretty obvious that they just are not educated in the rules enough to do their job correctly. There's plenty of blame to go around, but I place most of it on the CAA. They need to crack down on it, because this ultimately falls on the conference and its legitimacy in calling a fair game.

Agree 100%. No BS review in the first place and no issue.

RE: CAA admits officiating error
Let's take a look at the positives here. The CAA admitted that a mistake was made which would never have been done under the previous regime. Admitting the mistake gives me reason to believe that the problem will be fixed as I doubt Joey D wants to keep revisiting this issue. Time for some training and a conference wide policy regarding these calls. If you don't admit the problem then it is not fixable. First step taken, hoping for follow through and resolution.
