RE: GaSo coaching question about a past coach
Hatcher started out pretty well. He was a fan favorite and came in embracing our traditions (unlike the previous guy). And his first year he did well. He went 7-4 and could have won every game. He lost 2 games in OT, one by 2 points as we missed a last second FG,and one by 8 to an FBS opponent. So everyone thought he was going to be a success.

Then in 2008, he went 6-5 but had losses by 2 points, 1 pt, 1 pt and 10 points. So he was competitive in all but the uga game which was a 24 pt loss.

Then the disaster of 2009. The team went 5-6 and weren't competitive. Our losses were embarrassing. We lost games by 38,14,30,36,21 and 8. And the offense was quite boring as it consisted of bubble screen after bubble screen. (granted the O isn't any better now).

And he was our first coach that stayed at least 3 years to never make the playoffs. That was a big deal.

So that and calling out the president I think did him in. I do wonder if we make that FG his first year and win the conference/make the playoffs, if that would have bought him a 4th year. I think it may have. He was a likable guy though so I am glad he is doing well.

If we had expanded playoffs like we had in 2010, Hatcher would have made it in even with the missed field goal.

Monken went 7-4 in his first year too with a much less impressive offense but snuck into the expanded 20 team field. We made some noise after we got in and it set us up nicely for 2011, but the 2007 team was a good bit better than the 2010 team IMO.

So is Hatcher a possibility for South's next OC? I think he'd be a home run hire, but the question is whether he wants to take the risk to come to South and sink on Joey Jones' ship after one season.

No connection to that that I'm aware of. I was just looking at coaches that may be available for those that may need coaches at the end of the year. He's currently having success, was at GaSo in the past, so thought I'd ask what happened. He was 35 when coaching at GaSo, no 43. He could be getting hot at the right time to get some attention come December.

The difference was Jayson Foster. Jayson Foster was a certified badass, a ninja, like a video game come to life.

To all you football fans who aren't GS, CCU, or App fans and never saw Foster, watch Klak's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOfVreEXJM4 and enjoy the show.

Despite his shortcomings he's Bear Bryant compared to what we have now.

2009 was probably the weakest Georgia Southern team ever in terms of S&C. They gave up (I believe) eight sacks to Elon, who was a top 10 FCS team that year. App State out-gained then 712 to 171. I remember when Monken came on board, he was shocked at how bad GaSo was in the weight room. Allegedly, not one player could bench 300.

Hatcher did have a miracle comeback at Western Carolina where they were down four scores in the fourth quarter and won in OT.

They way they fired him, outside the back door of the locker room after the final game, was really low.

That was Baker for ya, I think Grube had his panties in a wad as well about the recruiting comments.

And yet, nobody that I know of has ever heard him say one bad thing about GS or the way things went for him. A class guy, whether he had the coaching success here or not.
