Look at the data it compares recruit rankings with the team sagarin ratings. I acknowledge problems with O-Line... but if the recruit ratings are somewhat consistent through the years but results are worse the problem is recruiting..?!
Since 2002 the program has had 2 coaches that are achieving a Sagarin rating worse than the recruiting rating:
TT
Fick
Fick has a small sample size so I am not ready to give up.

He will do well at an AAC, MAC, C-USA level job. That's where he belongs and about where his ceiling is. He recruits well enough and somehow he motivates his guys to play hard despite running a high school level offensive scheme. He was just in way over his head in the SEC. He was his own worst enemies most of the time with his "Champions of Life" crap and robotic clichés to every question. That crap doesn't fly with the media and fans in that league. He also refused to adapt his scheme and he's just horrible from a gameday management standpoint. Unfortunately for him he never learned to get away from it and just be honest when faced with adversity.

He's a mediocre coach, even for the AAC. But I like that he does things the right way.
I always thought the SEC was the wrong environment for him. He would have been better off at Purdue, where they'd be happy with 6-7 wins a year as long as he ran a squeaky clean program.

I think he could be a consistent 9-10 game winner in the AAC in the right program. And you might be right about a low P5 job like a Purdue or Kansas or Rutgers type place where he could win around 6 per year and get bowl eligible and it's good enough for everyone.
I agree the SEC was a terrible fit for him, plus he's not a good enough coach or decision maker to be at one of those programs.
He's still feeling the effects of using a freaking "Honor System" with his S&C program after he fired Dave Lawson in the spring of 2016. What coach in his right mind at this level does something like that?

All of this. The talent on the roster right now is bad, especially at QB, OL and WR (except for maybe the freshman). It's going to take a good while to get out of that hole.

You know, just a few more years and I'm sure the ol' Riverboat Bumbler would have had his guys in place. Could have been something special.

In addition, the guys we do have were badly coached for the past 4 years. You can’t just undo that in 9 months.

Agreed. I would not take Butch back. We saw his ceiling at UC. He never took us to the heights that we yearn for. He got to bask in the afterglow of BK, and achieved a victory over an SEC team (VANDY, mind you) which was cool, but c'mon.
He is a subpar gameday coach, and he's not learning. He's going to recruit reasonably well, and he's likely going to run a clean program. Not small feats. I think he'll do fine somewhere else, but he'll likely fade off into the sunset at some program holding the rope during 3-5 loss seasons in perpetuity.

Or he may just be a person of wealth, enjoying relative obscurity as a coordinator at another major program.

Numbers 1 - 38 are either on the hot seat or on the edge of the hot seat. CLF at #39 seems a bit high to me, considering that Miami's Chuck Martin is considered safer at #60. I'll take it as a compliment that our national expectations are to return to being one of the top (currently) G5 teams.

It's obviously one guy's opinion. Most people have Kevin Summlin (Texas A&M) in the "Top 5," this guy's matrix has him at #16. Kansas' David Beatty (in at #6 in this list) is considered relatively "safe" this season, as is Rhule (Baylor), and Lovie Smith (Illinois).
Outside of a couple of pissed off ECU fans, I have never heard Scottie [fixed] Montgomery's name mentioned as being in any jeopardy...they can't even fire their inept BB coach after several seasons, I'd guess Montgomery's seat is absolutely "cool."

You mean Scottie Montgomery. Shane was HC at Miami OH for an unsuccessful spell and is now the OC/QB coach at YSU under Pelini.
