If you pay him top 4 money and he doesn't reach that goal, you are setting up the administration with a legitimate reason to terminate him.
The counter argument is if you consider the value he's created in the football program, top 4 money is underpaid. I think you could argue no one in UAB history is directly and indirectly responsible for more money coming into the university in such a short time than Clark

I agree with that. I just wouldn't use the top 4 criteria. It creates an expectation to finish top 4 to justify the salary. While that expectation may be there, it shouldn't be mentioned with salary.
I think you have to have some criteria relative to peer institutions. That's about all there is.

I wonder if we're holding a spot in 2020 open in hopes of the stadium opening that year and bringing a big name in for an opener?

Yep, I'm sure that is what Ingram is thinking.

We need to play them, Jacksonville State, Alabama State, and Alabama A&M again in future schedules.
UNA is moving to D-1 starting next season. We should try to set up a game with them, too.
I'd also like to see the Troy series resume.
UNA is having trouble filling their schedule too. They average a good number at their home games and would likely travel well. This is a game I'd like to see.

I'd rather play Jax State or Samford over UNA. But I'm not opposed to playing UNA as long as they are FCS.

While I would, in general, agree with that.
The argument could be made that had he not been hired under false pretenses and would have been allowed to do what he can do instead of being handed a 2 year setback (that saw us effectively give away multiple future NFL players) he would already be in the top 4.
I also think, record aside, you can easily make the case for him being a top 4 coach in CUSA. Surely there are other criteria that matter.

Coaches are paid according to what other coaches in similar schools are making. Mich., Bama, Ohio State and others set the bar for their group. Last year the Auburn coach was listed as #14 in salary and still made over $4 million. The top coaches are running major entertainment businesses and are paid accordingly within our entertainment driven cultural value system. A new set of millionaire athletes are spawned into pro sports every year and they too are paid according to what others like them make.
The same applies to "midmajor" coaches whose schools don't have those $100 million annual budgets. For such ADs, it can turn into a "crap shoot" as to what pay level will keep their own coach happy.

They'll be FCS starting next fall. Members of Big South Conference in football, Atlantic Sun in all other sports.

RE: UAB to play Georgia in football in 2021 nfm
I just pray to never have to duplicate the 1961 opening season game at Sanford Stadium. The sun was beating down on a terribly hot and breezeless day, the two end zone concession stands (the only ones in the stadium) ran out of ice well before half time and there were no water fountains. Fans became so desperate that groups had to guard their (iceless) colas they bought by the flat as they made their way back to their friends to protect them from other fans. There may have been worse and more brutal games somewhere, but I'm glad to have never been to those.

He hung around at UAB after the program was shut down to help lead the fight to bring it back. He did this despite the fact that he had to suffer being micromanaged and jerked around every day by an athletic director who was hired to run him off and keep football dead.
Anyone doubting his ability to coach or questioning his loyalty to his players after all the **** that he went through to help bring this program back from the dead can go post that bull**** somewhere else. Screw top 4 in CUSA, there are not 4 coaches in the country I would replace him with.

I guess that wasnt the "flea-flicker" game when the Dawgs pulled off the big upset against the Tide, cause that game was a gorgeous fall day that was only made more perfect by the outcome of the struggle between Vince Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs and Bryant's supposededly unbeatable team.
