The article is not specifically about PJ so I though it was worthy of a post.

Thank-you for posting HuskieJohn!

Will always remember that game in 2003 against #15 Maryland!
That year we beat #21 Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

14 years later we beat Nebraska infront of a similarly large audience and have the very rare opportunity to follow it up with a victory against a ranked SDSU.

At least they didn't call us Northern Iowa

That is classic Fleck though..."top 10 team" when they were ranked 15th. He loves to stretch that truth "a little" Forever grateful for the MAC title in Kalamazoo, but the dude makes make laugh still.

He probably was referring to the number 10 ranking they had in the bcs that year.

No, it's not NIU's ranking. PJ said that Maryland was a Top 10 team.

Again...I still like him but I got used to so many of his "mild exaggerations" in Kalamazoo. Not outright untruths, but many many instances of stretching the truth.

Ohhhh ok, got it! Hahaha that's funny, Maryland was definitely not ranked in the top ten when niu played them in 2003. They may have been 13 in one poll and 15 in the other, I don't remember.

Maryland was ranked #15 when they played us and ranked #17 in the final ranking of 2003.

I do not blame PJ for exaggerating regarding 2003!
NIU experienced possibly one of the greatest FB turnarounds in modern college FB history.
From being ranked consistently in the bottom 10 and many times last in NCAAF , 2003 saw NIU spend 8 weeks ranked in the top 25 reaching the 12th spot on the AP pole in week 8.
The MAC really got screwed that year.
Miami Ohio went 13-1 finishing ranked #10.
BGSU finished 11-3 (losses to #4 Ohio State and Miami Ohio (twice)) yet were unranked in the final pole!
NIU went 10-2 and was not invited to a Bowl Game! Maybe the only college team in recent memory to go 10-2 without a Bowl invite.
Had NIU beaten Toledo and gone 11-1, BGSU would have advanced to the MAC title game by virtue of a tie breaker and NIU would have been the only team to go 11-1 in recent memory w/o a Bowl invitation.
Since 2003, I never get tired of NIU Bowl invites.
Oh how the times have changed for the better.
