I suspect insurance picked up most of Parsons' salary last year, unless the Grizz couldn't get insurance for Parsons. But wouldn't that be in the press about the contract?

His contract is not the issue. If it wasn't him it would be someone else. All NBA teams MUST use at least 90% of the cap. I know everyone likes to pile on Parsons, but he's not the problem here. It's part of the collective bargaining agreement. I just wonder what happens down the road when the current NBA TV deal expires.

Pera has no attachment to Memphis nor did Heisley. I think it just depends on the lease and how breakable/binding it is. Seattle would dearly love an NBA team for something to do during the rainy winter months - the Seahawks play 8 Sundays a year and....the Mariners don't really draw well.
The problem is we don't know where Adam Silver stands.
If Memphis keeps FedExForum up-to-date and the gate is reasonable based on team performance, we should be fine. We will always have issues with the TV and radio contract, but after the success of the last several years, and the rising cost of sports content, hopefully the TV deal with double or triple like other local deals. Hopefully Little Rock and Nashville factor into the Grizzlies' media equation.
Memphis has the benefit of some big sponsors the NBA wants to continue relationships with.
Memphis fell in love with the Grizzlies all over again in the Grit-Grind era, but we have never had a dominant team with a true franchise player like OKC or San Antonio. How would Memphis perform as a market if we had the next big thing and we literally were title contenders?
I'm more worried about Pera going bankrupt personally than the team relocating.
I worry about a new owner coming in and squeezing out the local minority ownership.
We lost more money last year than what a lot of those guys bought into the Grizzlies for. [1] I'm pretty sure the local ownership doesn't pay any of that 8M. What happens if that rule changes?

Windy is a hack who is only known because he came up with LeBron and LeBron likes him.
He knows nothing outside LeBron or the Cavs.

If the owners are billionaires the $8,000,000 is like $8,000 to a millionaire.
They don't want to lose it , but it is no big deal.
