Traditions is what it is all about. so far we have the howitzer, all aboard ....., Another Monarch fIrst down, and Ice Cream and Cake. We need the M O N A R C H S fight song to take off. We also need a 4th quarter ringing of the bell or flag raising or something. Getting this old crowd to stand up and yell on a 3rd down is impossible. We need young alumni to attend the game and they are virtually non existent.

I would like to see a "O" "D" "U" cheer using opposite sides of the stadium. That would be cool and easy but ODU cant figure that out.

I think some of you are just expecting too much. When we are in tight games the place gets pretty loud. No, everyone doesn't stand, but they are making noise. We get at least one delay of game or last second time out on third down nearly every game. We even got one against UNC who is used to playing at places like VT and FSU. Clearly it gets reasonably loud down on the field.

Sorry, but I am not getting loud and standing just for the sake of it on third down when we are down by thirty. I am going to sit miserably baking in the sun and watch the game from a more analytical position at that point, because there is really nothing to get excited about.

Geez you couldn't be more of a downer if you tried. First I will give you credit for going to the game. I don't bash people that attend. But I do criticize people that don't make any effort to get the team going by making some noise. Its one thing when it is 39-7. But there was not alot of noise when it was 10-0. It was like everyone gave up right when the game started. Not enough pre-game energy to get the players going. ODU really needs to find a way to improve on that. That being said. Sadly things could be worse. WE NEED THE NEW STADIUM!

There most certainly was a lot of noise around me when it was 10-0.

Next home game will be pretty competitive with a lot on the line. ODU vs. FAU should be a great one. Come out, bring your friends be loud and stay until the end... cheering the Monarchs to victory. If we can beat FAU, I like our chances at going to a bowl.

I do get up and make noise... when we are in a competitive game.
And when it was close they got a delay of game penalty because the QB couldn't communicate with the O line.

RE: Game Atmosphere
The problem that people fail to see is that when things start to go south, that is when the players need the energy and noise from the crowd more than ever. Not when only good things happen but when the opposing team is on offense after a turnover. We need to be louder than ever.

I love your enthusiasm. I am all in during gameday. But, I will stand up and cheer for big plays, but I'm not standing up and being loud on 3rd down when we are down 30. Just not going to happen.

This entire discussion started when you called me out for saying that I don't get up and get loud when we are down by 30 points

If the band is practicing on the field during the march, maybe the hoops pep band could go with them.
Well the hoops pep band are in marching band so lol

How about raising Jack Ankerson on a pole? I'd standup and cheer for that! 02-13-banana

If you didn't have any issue with anything I said, then what the hell was the point of your post and calling me a downer. It's hard to follow folks who contradict themselves three times in a single post.

While I thought enter sandman was cool, I was not as good as HM hyped it up to be. That being said, I hope ODU officials are thinking about creative ways to improve the game atmosphere.

RE: Game Atmosphere
I think the new scoreboard will help some by getting instructions out to the fans more easily. I like when the band goes into the crowd. Id like to see the team (or some cheerleaders) run on the field with the US, Va. and Monarch flags (what happened to the 12th Monarch flag?) Cannon blasts after ever score and to start the game. Flyovers. Fireworks. Maybe get Big Blue to lead Ice Cream and Cake from the middle of the field? Blast the music, especially crazy train. Maybe have a guy run a giant ODU flag from one end zone to the other just before the fourth quarter. If we had more night games, fireworks after the game would be cool. VT shoots them out of their scoreboard. I know some disagree but I think the way the Orioles yell "OH!" in the national anthem would be great for ODU, since we're Odu. Also, 7 Nation Army song is cool because of the Oh, Oh Oh Oh OHHHHH Oh. Maybe on third down the 12 Monarchs are yelling Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, and as soon as the opposing QB gets the snap the crowd yells "D-U"! That could be cool.
