Heart of Dallas bowl
So apparently CUSA made a deal to swap the HoD bowl for the Armed Forces bowl this year. Because I guess this makes sense or something.

You wouldn't rather watch Army run the ball down someone's throat than, say, the Warshington Huskies?

RE: Heart of Dallas bowl
just saw that. pathetic. you seriously couldn't do things to f-up CUSA any better if you tried. its like CUSA (or someone), goes out of their way and stays up at night trying to come up with ideas to make this conference even worse than it already is.

Can the schools sue CUSA? They should. They seriously should just dissolve it entirely. The schools get $200k a year now. think about that?! $200k a year form the conference tv contract. it cost teams more to be in CUSA (when you account for travel) than the amount of money they collect / benefit from CUSA. its a fraud and a farce! Sue Judy, sue the conference, quit the conference and nobody pays any exit fees. do this at the conclusion of the football season. or hell....do it tonight.

Extremely dumb move. Guess our conference champion will play a 4-8 MAC team in the Sbarro Bowl in some guy's basement in Brooklyn.

Surprised many are, well, surprised. Almost every year something is announced to help CUSA secure its self as worse conference. I'm still laughing at the overall excitement for our games to be shown on Facebook. Judy sucks but can't blame her only. School presidents promoted her and vote on these silly ideas/plans. Product of our collective university presidents

My guess is HoD said "trade or we'll drop you at contract renewal," so we traded so we weren't left with nothing.

RE: Heart of Dallas bowl
According to this, the Big Ten announced it back is May. CUSA didn't confirm it until today. That's kinda fishy. Also note HoD was scheduled to have a Big Ten team last year, but North Texas ended up going instead due to too many bowl bids for too few teams.

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-2017/amp/

My guess is the Big Ten & HoD had already made a handshake deal to do a make-up for last year, and the lag between the announcements was due to CUSA negotiating compensation for its cooperation in the matter.

google "cusa president" instead of "cusa commissioner"....

that pretty much sums up our 'national standing'.....

The big question I would like to know is what does our president and athletic director think about this and if opposed, what actions are we taking?

^^^This, or something close to it. There is no way we had a choice in the matter. ESPN owns both of these bowls. They essentially kicked us out. We had no choice. It was not a "trade" as is being reported. We got demoted.

I swear I will never NEVER watch anything on espn or any of their spinoffs that does not involve USM. Had it with the Satan itself.

And that includes their MNCG. Didn't watch last year and never will again.

Awesome! This means that Southern Miss is winning the conference this year! Remember the last time it happened that the conference lost its premier bowl for the year (Liberty) was when we had the Hawaii fiasco!

Shreveport could be an option. The SEC may not to be able to fill their spots with Ole Miss bowl ban ..... CUSA would play ACC in this scenario.

Don't worry. ESPN and some 5 win SEC team will take care of that small bump in the road.

this post really puts things in perspective.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-827059-post-145...id14581365

after 105 years of football, we are on par with teams that have been playing for a few years (Charlotte, Old Dominion, USTA, etc.). hell, lets not even bring up South Florida, Central Fl, etc.

RE: Heart of Dallas bowl
It is pretty crazy/sad how far this program has fallen. You could make the case that only SMU has only fallen more since the 80s.. I didn't start following USM until 2004 (win at Nebraska got me hooked at a young age). However, I like going back and looking at the old seasons and box scores so I can see just how good we used to be. Late 90s win 2 CUSA titles and obliterate Pitt in the LB. 2000 we shutout Bama and Oklahoma State on the road. Truly mindboggling. Also had a win over top 15 TCU in GMAC bowl that year. 2003 we beat TCU to knock them out of BCS Bowl. I went back and watched the 2003 Nebraska game in Hattiesburg and even though we lost badly, that looked to be a sick atmosphere. Packed house for a national power with Tirico, Herbstreit, and Corso on the call. Tirico commented that we had the largest enrollment in MS at the time. Odds that we ever get a Nebraska or A&M to Hattiesburg nowadays is basically zilch. This year we get an SEC team to open the year and MMRS is half-empty. The days of hosting P5 teams every 1 or 2 years are over, might have the chance every decade or so. I will always support Southern Miss, but it is depressing to think about what could have been if we just had some halfway decent leadership over the years. Giannini and Saunders absolutely killed us.

RE: Heart of Dallas bowl
Now Beagle think about how those of us who are a little older feel .... I'm 42 and was a kid watching during the 80's. Went to school there in the mid 90's and then into all the stuff you mention. It's really hard to watch all this go down. The big gut punch to me was watching TCU, Cincy and L'ville leave CUSA and pass us by. Then, the next wave hits and programs like ECU, Memphis and Tulane pass us. Meanwhile we've sat on our asses and end up with the likes of Old Dominion, etc.

It's a hard pill to swallow!
