RE: OT: NFL Opening Game Patriots/Chiefs down 12% from last year.
I read that the Chiefs owner told his players, coaches, etc. that if anyone kneeled or sat during the national anthem that no matter who it was that he'd be fired. I saw no.22 of the Chiefs sitting down during the anthem but at the start of the game he was playing. I didn't see him after a while in the game though so I'm wondering if the owner kept his word or reneged.
Any news?

+1.
As college football continues to turn their product into NFL-lite, they're next.

Owners would be stupid to say something like that because they would instantly be sued for doing so.

I actually feel the opposite regarding NFL vs college FB. The P5/G5 division of college football is the most hypocritical sport out there - where pro players pretend to be amateurs and pretend to GAF about their alma maters. No doubt a few of the college FB players genuinely care about their schools; however, the majority are ringers who are only at the colleges to gain training/access to the NFL. At least in the NFL, we know exactly what the players stand for and that they are - truly - professional athletes who are acting like such.
But...my interests in sports in general has been waning for awhile. I used to watch multiple CFB games and NFL games. Then I morphed to watching only my teams play. Now it's a crapshoot on whether I'll watch my teams from week to week. The kneeling during the national anthem put a bad taste in my mouth. However, the rule changes plus steady increase in commercials is ruining the game. Football in general is contracting. To what extent it will contract remains to be seen. However, we are seeing reduced participation in the pop warner football games and the reduced participation is making it's way up to the middle schools and high schools soon. Sooner than later, the NFL will become another gladiator sport where the athletes are predominantly from poverty stricken areas while the crowds will be those who would never dream to allow their children to play such a dangerous sport.

I love college and pro football. Don't let your politics ruin a good thing. It's just a game after all.

This thread is a perfect example of what we were talking about the other day in another thread. You have people who do not even understand the Constitution supposedly teaching our kids about it and we wonder why most people can't identify the three branches of government.

It's already starting. The kids that can are gravitating to lacrosse, those that can't afford that expensive sport are sitting home. I coached for a decade + from the time my son started with Flag all the way through Seniors (7-8th graders) then stayed on with the Sr's team while he played HS. He just started his Soph of College.
We made 4 consecutive Super Bowls, winning two of them. We had so many players we scheduled Monday night games for all the kids that either didn't start or didn't play much on Saturdays. As in rosters the size of, or larger than, a lot of HS programs.
I called the new Assoc Administrator this Summer to see if the Sr's team needed any Asst coaches. They weren't even fielding a team.
Couldn't get even 15 of the softies off the couch and away from the cheetos and gaming... Very disappointing and startling at the same time.

So why did you say this?
Quote:If you think boycotting the NFL is going to force them to make everyone stand during the National Anthem you are sadly mistaken because they can't do that. It's unconstitutional.

I meant to say it was probably not a violation of their rights.
It's not unconstitutional. Thank you for pointing that out.
