“Every family has got to get ready,” he said.
At Orlando International Airport, officials were planning to meet with airline officials Tuesday to discuss emergency plans and preparing for the storm.
Irma has become one of the most powerful storms in history with the National Hurricane Center calling it “potentially catastrophic.” It’s tied with Hurricane Wilma as the second strongest storm that’s formed in the Atlantic Ocean on record, both just behind Hurricane Allen in 1980, which had wind speeds of 190 mph.

I'd guess that might **** up some flight plans for any who were flying into Orlando ahead of the Saturday game? Of course, the hurricane would have ****** up the flight plans on Saturday so.........

There is a chance, so it is being said, that Central Florida might flood like Houston did.
They just don't know what to expect. But the strength of this hurricane is mind blowing.

On the one hand, they don't want to discourage tourism, (their life blood) but the governor did declare the whole state to be in a state of emergency.... that's fairly discouraging.
They just don't know which way it will go. Possible paths as of 11 hours ago are straight up the spine of Florida itself.
looking at this map, is about all the study needed.

Miami Dade Public Schools and Government are closed Thursday and Friday. There will most likely be a mandatory evacuation issued tomorrow.
No bottled water available, not even on Amazon Fresh. It's about to be a Cluster F here.

But where will the people go? There are so many.
We may be asking residents in zones A & B to begin evacuating as early as tomorrow. Find out in which zone you live: http://www.miamidade.gov

Flights out of Miami, Orlando and Tampa are being cancelled for later in the week
If the team plays Friday night, might not be able to fly out
Forecast showing gale force winds over all of Florida by Saturday morning

That's what I was wondering
...how would they and y'all get back out? Unless you were driving.
and there is probably a run on gas too--like bottled water

Stupid to fly towards a hurricane on purpose, imo. Can you imagine how ridiculous this is.
There might be a big earthquake on Saturday so we need to play the game on FrIday.
An asteroid might hit Saturday so let's play on Friday.
Insane

Florida is officially in a state of emergency. The decision to play this game has me scratching my head.

People keep saying it's Football, an outdoor sport that gets played in bad weather.
What does that have to do with this decision? If it were our basketball, our soccer, our riflrey team--- any team, I'd be saying the same thing.
Irma is the second strongest Hurricane on record--so far.
They are trying to be safe in the whole state of Florida, telling some to be ready to evacuate as early as tomorrow morn, telling every family in the whole effing state to have enough water, food and meds for three days.
uhm are we gonna take down three days of water food and meds for each player and coach?

I agree. Move the game to Memphis if you got to play it this weekend...

My guess is if they play, should be over by 9 and the team will probably go straight to the airport and get the **** up outta there.

I'm sure flights are being canceled. But more than likely those are flights to Caribbean destinations. Orlando isn't expected to start getting any sort of weather until later Saturday and into early morning Sunday, if that. An Orlando to Memphis flight on Friday night or early Sat isn't really going to be affected. And obviously more southern airports will see cancellations sooner than Orlando.
A game ending Friday night is plenty of time for Memphis staff and players to get out. I actually have a flight scheduled to go into Orlando late this Friday night and it is unaffected. Obviously I'll be changing my travel plans, though, because my flight returning to TX is on Sunday afternoon - likely causing some issues.
Edit: Apparently the Liberty Bowl is booked anyway and isn't an option. Also, by flying people out on Saturday to Memphis, you simply run the risk of stranding UCF players away from home when they try to return. While also causing a schedule issue for next year because you're suddenly losing a home game. The right decision was made - just play it earlier and get out with plenty of time. No need to stretch the consequences of this into next year.

According to models, the storm will be off the east coast of Cuba by kickoff. That's a long way from Orlando. Now, the movement of all of south Floridians will be be a big problem. The whole state will be leaving and heading north. Its an iffy situation.
