Sorry but...... Kent State, Bowling Green, and Akron are flat-out awful. None of these teams can tackle worth a damn. Jury still out (barely) on CMU. Testicle Tech looks very competitive!

RE: MAC football - week 1
And Ball State chokes it away just like most MAC schools do when faced with a close game vs. a P5 opponent.

Other interesting scores from week 1

Idaho - 28
Sacramento State - 6
Star QB Linehan went 14/19, 163 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs.

Maryland - 51
#23 Texas - 41

James Madison - 34
East Carolina - 14
JMU would be a great addition to the MAC

Liberty - 48
Baylor - 45
Baylor is the biggest mess in FBS right now

Howard - 43
UNLV - 40
Record setting game. UNLV were 45 point favorites and lost. Biggest upset in Vegas CFB betting history.

RE: MAC football - week 1
One SC fan on their forums complained about their D line being pushed around. I flashed back to a play in the second half where Bogan was hit and the O line congealed around him and the whole mass of bodies started moving downfield, with Bogan's legs still churning under the pile. The USC radio announcers likened it to a rugby scrum and it moved almost 10 yards!

Quite a number of USC fans on their forums were battling the perception from other fans that this should have been a practice scrimmage. They insisted that, unlike most of their PAC-12 rivals, USC actually played a good team. They feel that WMU exposed their weaknesses (even when Lester had said all week what we were going to do; run) and will help them to work on those before facing a really tough Stanford team, who had a laugher against Rice. Several posters said that our running game might be the best they see this season, given our strength on the OL and our RBs.

One caveat with this one: not many books post lines for FBS vs. FCS matchups, and those that do won't take anything resembling a large bet on them.

A monumental upset nonetheless.

The biggest upset from a point spread perspective in a game with a widely available line, ironically, was Stanford 24-23 over #1 USC in the Coliseum on October 6, 2007. I believe that was Jim Harbaugh's first year there.

Stanford's starting quarterback had suffered a seizure in practice the week before, and the backup who started that game had never thrown a collegiate pass.

The consensus closer: USC -41

Top 5 MACtion plays from week 1. Guess which plays were #3 & #1? https://twitter.com/MACSports/status/904...36/video/1

Personally I thought Beal's INT should've been up there. Considering he picked the Heisman candidate at a time when the game was in reach. Clutch grab with barely a toe on the ground
